Has anyone used a doula for childbirth?

If so, who, and what was your experience?  Also, does anyone have any feedback regarding the doulas associated with Good Sam?  TIA!

Re: Has anyone used a doula for childbirth?

  • When I was pregnant with G, I was working with a doula and developed a birth plan with her for an unmedicated labor. She was very knowledgable and I had no doubt that she would have helped me achieve the birth experience I had hoped for if I had the chance. As it turned out, G was breech and I needed a c-section. If I decide to do a VBAC next time, I would hire a doula again.

(Just edited all of the typos...that's what I get for posting from my phone!)

  • My SIL used a doula and she said it was the best $ she ever spent.  She made it 20 hours before she gave up and got an epi. She DD was 9+ lbs.
