Help me decide...

It's been pretty dead around here lately, so for those of you around help me decide.... Do I take a mental health day off work tomorrow? Boss is on vacation and Friday's are pretty quiet around the office.  I would just call in sick, which I never do. I feel a little guilty about doing because I am coming in late one day next week and taking next Friday off...

So should I do it?

How often do you just a take a day off for yourself?

  • I say, if you can spare the day, just do it!  I wish I could do this for myself right now.

  • I can spare the day, I think I might be the only one that doesn't abuse the system when the boss is gone,  guilt usually always overcomes me and I end up coming in or working from home.... I was hoping to spend the day sleeping in and really cleaning the house, not much of a relaxing me day!! HA

  • Sometimes you just need a day to catch up on life!
  • I'm a firm proponent of taking your days when you need them.  I don't care why you're taking them, they're your days to use.  So long as you're not screwing anyone over by it being short notice/last minute, I say do it.

100% agree!  Take the day off.

  • I say take it too. One year I took every Monday off of work for the entire Summer. I was planning an out of town wedding, so I was traveling back home a lot, but not every weekend. It was amazing.

If you have the time and you're still getting your work done when you are at work, your boss should be supportive.

I think you should definitely do it. Take a "mental health day" and just enjoy your time off at home.  Personal days are for your discretion, so you shouldn't feel guilty at all.  Back when I was working, I used a few days here and there throughout the year "just because".
