Anyone drive to Duluth regularly?
DH and I are heading up that way this weekend. It looks like there are more sections under construction than not!
How bad are the delays on a Friday after work? Just wonder if it would be worth heading through Wisconsin - according to google, that route is 50 minutes longer.

Re: Anyone drive to Duluth regularly?
We've gone up several times this summer, but only on a Friday once. The Friday on Memorial Day weekend was pretty bad, but it was a holiday weekend, the slowdown is right after Hinckley- 35 shuts down to one lane each way for about 13 miles. I think about an hour was added to our total drive.
We have since gone up on weekdays other than Friday and that's helped a lot.
So it sounds like going through WI might be a little faster, especially since there's construction between here and North Branch now.
I wish we could go early. We're leaving our foster dog with someone who can't pick him up until 5.....unless I could rope my dad into staying with the dog for a couple hours. I'm sure he'd love that.
BTW, we're going to the SHT.

Nice! Have fun, I hope you guys have great weather! We need to get back up to the SHT soon, we haven't been on it since Memorial Day Weekend.

I drove through Duluth last weekend (on my way to Thunder Bay). I left home at 8:30am on Friday, and traffic was no problem at all. Later in the day might be a totally different story.
I did hit bad traffic coming home on Sunday afternoon. We got to Duluth around 1:30pm, and traffic was totally backed up getting out of Duluth. There's construction just south of Duluth, and then there's a 10-mile stretch that's down to one lane, around Moose Lake. At that second construction spot, it took us over 1.5 hours to go 12 miles. It was awful. If you're coming home on Sunday, go early or late, don't try drive on 35 in the middle of the afternoon.

Thanks.
Jackson's owners are in prison on some sort of drug thing. A friend took him in but he escaped from her a couple times. He ended up in a shelter. One of my former co-workers just started up a rescue group and posted him on his FB page and now here he is. I'm doing a blog for him. http://ismilewithmytail.wordpress.com.
He's a 120 lb. black lab/Great Dane mix. They're thinking 5 years old, neutered, up to date on shots, house trained, knows sit, no, walk and treat, good with dogs and kids (although he could easily knock a little one over). We'll find out how he is with cats this weekend. LOVES the water.
He comes with his flaws, but we're working on them and he's a very smart guy so I think he'll be great in a few more weeks. He's super mellow inside and loves to play outside. It's just the transition that gets him. He gets so freaking excited whenever we get ready to go outside, for a walk, etc. and wants to push his way out the door. We're really working with him on sitting until we tell him it's okay to go out the door. It's going slow but I have faith. We've had him a week and he's almost consistently sitting as soon as we tell him to sit. I hold onto his collar until I'm ready to let him out and he's definitely not trying as hard to get up and go out. Also in the past week, he went from pulling so hard on the leash that I couldn't hold him to walking an entire block right next to me without pulling!
I think he's a bit of an escape artist. He got away from me when I took him to Petco but he ran right into the store so we're wondering if he had been there before and knew he would get treats. And I think he knows how to open the storm door....or I'm losing my mind and not fully latching it when I think I am. I'm hoping that teaching him to sit at the door will help with all this.
If you know anyone who is looking, point them in Jackson's direction.

I wish our house was bigger, I'd take him in a heartbeat. Our dog, Chester is almost 2yrs old and is a Lab/Dane mix and is absolutely wonderful. He gets along with our cat too. He does love to chase the cat and make him mad, but at the end of the day they sleep next to each other on our bed.

Oh my gosh, I keep telling DH that Jackson looks like his name should be Chester. How funny!
Does your dog get water all over when he drinks? I can't figure out if it's a Dane thing or if he's just a big slob.
Can you imagine having 2 big dogs? We have Jackson and our 30 lb. dog and I sometimes feel like our house is too small for the four of us. The other hard part is we have a 2 door car and a small pickup so it's next to impossible to bring both dogs with us.
If you know of anyone else who might be interested, send them our way!

That's funny. DD named him and we thought it fit him. He is a slob when he drinks and his bark is all dane. I nearly have a heart attack every time!
