OK, so know that I am no longer in the corner silently weeping...
Overall - The Tanita and the $35 scale came up with the same readings* Although both have a disclaimer that if you have metal implants you won't get accurate readings (I have a metal plate in my ankle), but if that's the case, both scales measured the inaccuracy the same.
This wasn't an apples to apples test, since my circa 1997 Tanita doesn't measure water, so I had to do math.
* the $35 dollar scale, when set to lbs, seems to measure my lean body mass and then fat% and water%. BUT when set to kgs it seems to do my overall weight and then fat/water% and then you do the math to figure out lean body mass. I need to look into that a bit a more to make sure I have set properly.
So, when I take the Tanita readings and do the math, it comes up with the same lean body mass that the $35 scale gave me (in lbs). I'm not sure what percentage of the water to add back into the fat and the lean body mass, so I am basing my scales are equal comment on the lean body mass readings.
And now I must go toss everything in the fridge and start a sensible eating plan because these numbers were totally unacceptable! ![]()
Re: Jetur20 - Scale test results
Awwww, I'm sorry this has brought some trauma. I was looking on amazon.com the other day and there seem to be some good Tanita ones for about 45 dollars. Omron also gets some good reviews. Next time I am in civilization, this is going to be my next purchase!
Thanks. And I hope this is the start of a new phase in becoming lean, mean and strong for you. You'll be dragging Delta around on palm fronds easily in a few months!
