FFFC's/AW's

I have been obsessively checking my grades on my university site, waiting for my conducting grade to be posted. I've turned into a crazy person.

Re: FFFC's/AW's

  • AW: I'm going to the Calgary/Lake Banff area next week for training for work. I'm taking a geology field course, so we'll be spending a few hours in the classroom each morning discussing theory, then driving around and hiking the Canadian Rockies to look at rock outcrops. They're paying for airfare, hotels, and meals, so I basically get an awesome trip for free! I love my job. Big Smile

  • Today is my last day at the company I've worked for since my very first internship in college.  I'm kinda sad to leave, but excited/nervous about the new job too.

Also, nobody expects me to accomplish work today, right?

  • FFFC: There is a "You might be from ____ if" for my hometown. I follow it just to see the people on there get into fights. Yes, there are people bringing up the past and talking crap to other people. It's pretty entertaining since these people are still living in the same town and pretty sure their kids go to school with eachother also. Makes me happy that I moved away.

AW: We are starting to research what improvements we want to do for the house. We plan on moving in maybe 2 years and if we want sell there are some cosmetic things we need to do. We've been talking about it for awhile but now we are actually going to act on it. So I am in full research mode and actually have a pinterest account now. Big Smile

Oh yay!!!!!!! I am excited that another reno person will be on the Oklahoma Board.  What do you all plan to do?

  • I almost threw my phone out the window this morning - it crashed on me, and I thought I lost everything. I eventually got it to sync, but I lost all my apps. Ugh. I will say that ever since I removed FB and rebooted it, my phone's been working better.

I've lost three pounds on the simple fact that I've had to change my diet to make my gallbladder happy. I'm thinking this will be a permanent change after surgery.

OSU opened camp this morning. I'm so excited that something other than baseball will be on in a few short weeks [although, I do like baseball - especially when the Red Sox are winning...just started getting really boring after NBA and World Cup ended].

  • I'm super frustrated. I last had a good ride on my horse three weeks ago. Since then, he got sick for a few days, then got injured. On Tuesday I rode him for a short while, and he was stiff, but okay. Last night I tried again, and he had a new injury. This one isn't an easy fix though--it will likely be three months at least before he can be ridden again. *headdesk* What really pisses me off though is that this injury (and his last injury) could have been prevented--it was another horse kicking and biting the crap out of him. He got moved to another paddock last night, but too little too late clearly. I've tried to raise this subject for a while, but no one would listen until this happened.

On the plus side, at least I don't have to totally stop riding--An acquaintance asked me earlier this week if I would be able to ride a few of her horses to get them ready for a show in about 2 months. So even though I'm completely annoyed about my usual horse, I'm really looking forward to riding these other horses.

I just want to say that I got a couple of quotes for the repair work I mentioned earlier this week and I think PWs recommendation is definitely the way to go.

  • We went to breakfast with my mom and her BF a couple weeks ago. I mentioned that I was getting ready for my first 5k. I said I was kind of slow though and I mentioned my pace. My mom's BF said something along the lines of "That's it? I could walk that fast!" It made me so mad! I don't run that slow. And he's a pretty tall and big guy, I doubt he could walk that fast, I don't think most people could walk that fast.

AW: I lost 3 pounds during our vacation in Colorado! And my jeans are too big :)

Well first, congrats.  What race are you doing?  You said you live in Moore right?  I'd love to have someone to run with sometime if you'd like an occasional running buddy.   Second, eff him.  A couple of quotes to remind you that you're doing great things for YOU.

-- It doesn't matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone on the couch.

-- It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners.  Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit.

-- In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last.  You can say "I have finished." There is a lot of satisfaction in that. - Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder

Wait, so is Coach gag-worthy or just the practically camping out to save $50 on a Coach bag?

  • FFFC: I don't give a sh!t about bags. Designer bags are a waste of money in my mind. My current daily bag was $7 on clearance at Tar-jay. If it holds my stuff, and is reasonably acceptable-looking, then I'm good to go. I'd rather spend the money on a fun night out with H or friends, or on something for the house, or on nice clothes.

BOTH!!!  And honestly, if saving $50 is worth standing in line for an hour or two, then maybe you shouldn't be spending that much money on a bag to begin with.

Our house is fairly new (built in 08) so we aren't doing a whole lot just minor things. Extend and cover the patio, install more lighting in living room and kitchen, build a built in bookcase in the living room (maybe even possibly the guest bedroom), install wood flooring, work on the front and back yards (want to plant more trees and plant a garden along the back fence). Sounds like a lot but this will be over the span of this year and next. We are very excited!

Oh, I am so glad!!  He is, hands down, not just a good contractor but a REALLY REALLY nice guy.  The people that work for him are awesome too - they have a key to our house - I trust them to be in our house when we are not that. Although, we don't really have anything worth stealing either but that's neither here nor there! Big Smile  He also has a really, really good eye for design which is super helpful too.

Friend me on facebook - I have pics of his work - I can't WAIT until he starts on our kitchen this spring.

Count me in on the reno.

Our house is super tiny, so we're going to use part of the extra-long garage to create another bathroom and a laundry room. Other things on the list include painting most of the interior walls of the house; ripping up the carpet and refinishing the parquet floor underneath; tiling the floor in the bathroom; ripping the wood paneling (ack!) off the walls in what is now the office; de-popcorning the ceiling. Should be interesting. :)

We'd like to be out of our house in two years as well. It IS tiny, but the low mortgage is so nice. We'll see how it goes.

That IS a lot to do but it will be really nice.  We redid our landscaping this spring - everything has died.  So, don't spend a ton on that - ha ha ha.

As far as wood stuff - bookcases, vanities, cabinetry and such - I really like Suburban Cabinets - they are in a sketch area of town - but they are debt free which is a passed on to their customers in major price savings.  They have made both of our bathroom vanities - gorgeous - and we plan to have them make our kitchen cabinets as well.  Also, Ward Wood does a good job (that is who my subcontractor prefers).

Oh yay!!!!!!! I am excited that another reno person will be on the Oklahoma Board.  What do you all plan to do?

We've done a lot of renovations on our current house, but for some reason we didn't think to take before pictures, so I haven't posted about it.  I really wish I had done before and afters on our hall bathroom - H really did some gorgeous tile work.

If we ever actually sell this damn house, we have quite a bit of work to do on the next house as well (paint kitchen/laundry cabinets; new kitchen counters, sink, faucet and removing a section of upper cabinets; polished concrete floors in the kitchen, laundry room, living room and formal living/dining; removal of wallpaper and painting throughout; replacing all of the lovely blue crap (sink, counter, toilet and tub) in the master bath and a bit of work on the other bath).  ETA:  McGillicuddy reminded me that we, too, have another 2300 sq. ft. of popcorn to scrape from the ceilings.  Fun.

H will be doing all of the work himself (probably with the help of his dad and a friend of his who is a contractor), and it will take us quite a while to get it all done, but I will make sure to take pics and post about it this time.

Well, in that case I confess to owning a couple, but they were both gifts and $50 doesn't cover my time for standing in line for a few hours so I guess there's that. I don't see what's flame-worthy about having/liking a particular designer.  Sure they're more expensive than a purse you can buy at Target, but they're also much higher quality.  A Target style purse usually fell apart in a couple of months and I've spent most of the last 5 years carrying one of two coach purses and they're both still in good shape.

  • Yay, Bluekid!!!

The daughter of one of my co-workers is hanging out up here this week. She's taken a liking to me. So, she keeps coming over to talk to me. I like this kid, but, damn, I'm trying to work.

Also, I'm wearing flip-flops to work. It's summer, there are no students, and I'm basically chained to my cube with work, but it still feels wrong.

And people were actually standing in line for the Coach store last night? Wow. My mom talked about venturing to Carter's this weekend, but I'd rather go shop in Allen/Grapevine than deal with the craziness that could be the OKC outlet mall this weekend.

Thanks for the quotes! Those are helpful! FIL works for OG&E and they're having a big Lineman's Expo tomorrow. The 5k is part of the expo and is for employees and their families. If I enjoy the 5k (which I think I will), I'll probably register to do the Brookhaven Run 5k in September and the Susan G. Komen with a group of friends.

And yeah, I live in Moore. I'd love to have an occasionaly running buddy!
