Pre-emergent

Some folks have been telling me to put down pre-emergent next spring to keep the crab grass at bay.  Can I use it now?  I have planted new plants and they aren't doing well, but the weeds are growing juuuuust fine.

I keep pulling them, but it's getting out of hand.

That depends: WHAT is the chemical? WHAT kind of weed are you trying to prevent?

When people say to apply CRABGRASS preemergent in the spring, that is correct for crabgrass in lawn turf. Pre-emergents will NOT work on post-emergent weeds (that are sprouting, growing, and blooming NOW).

The best way to deal with post emergent weeds is pulling them up by hand. For chemical controls, follow the manufacturers label directions.
