DH is freaking me out re: apartment

This whole moving apartments thing is mostly my idea. I want someplace I can settle into for a few years and picture maybe even starting a family in. DH could live in a cardboard box as long as the rent wasn't too high.

So the landlord demanded a yes or a no for renewing our lease as of today, and I said no. They were showing the apartment 3 hours later!

Now DH is freaking out because we don't have a new place yet, what if we can only find a place that is worse than what we have now, the rents around here are so high, etc. etc.

I've probably spoken to 10 realty agents and I have two appointments set up for Monday, but DH is making me so nervous! I hope I haven't screwed us over.

  • I'm sure something will turn up! What areas are you looking in?

  • I second the question as to where are you looking?  You're in Brighton now, right?

  • Pretty much anywhere, though mostly western towns. We are in Brighton and definitely willing to stay here, but we are also open to places like Newton, Watertown, Needham, West Roxbury, maybe as far as Belmont. I am trying to be really flexible about location because a) All these places are much closer than I thought to where we live now and b) the prices go down sooo fast just a town or two farther away from the city.

I have high hopes for one of my appointments on Monday. She sounds older, competent, and says she can show me a few places at a time. So far it has been mostly 23 year old guys who think I want some dingy college kid apartment and take me to ONE place. It took three days to set up an appointment to see one place? Er, no thanks.
