Need help choosing macbook please

I have narrowed it down the Macbook Pro with 15 inch screen and 500 gb harddrive or the mac air with 13 inch screen 256 flash drive memory (no dvd/cd).  I plan on using primarily for documents and picture editing.  I like the sleekness of the air, but I'm afraid a bit of it being too delicate for me.  It is nice that it is so light though.

Re: Need help choosing macbook please

  • I have the MBP and really like it.  It's a little on the bigger, heavier side, but to me that's worth it to have the ability to play a disc if I need to.  I don't have another computer or portable device where I could open a data disc or DVD if I needed to.  I have carried mine around with me traveling quite a bit, and unless I carry it for an extended period of time, I don't even notice the weight.

What about going somewhat in between and getting the MBP with 13" screen?  That's what I have.  It was a bit small to get used to at first, but now I don't even notice it.

  • I would go with the MBP. Just in editing alone it would be a better option.
  • We have both the Pro and the Air.  If you plan on traveling at all and want portability, the Air would probably be good.  Picture editing should be fine with the Air.  It took some getting used to for me because it's so thin, but it really is nice being so light.  It kind of feels like an iPad on steroids to me.

I also love the Pro and that's my main computer because I'm not gentle and I really am afraid I'm going to break the Air.  Plus, I like that since it's thicker, the keyboard is a little higher.  The Air is so thin, it's like typing on a flat surface and that's weird to me.

  • I am planning to upgrade to a Mac when my Dell netbook bites the dust (although it is currently going strong, so no telling when that will be), and I will be getting the Pro. My feeling about the Air is this...it would be great as a second laptop, but it wouldn't work as my primary. I don't have a CD-ROM on this netbook, so I had to buy an external one. I went cheap, so the one I got is not a burner or a DVD-ROM. I like the idea of having a CD/DVD-RW drive built right into my laptop, so that makes the Pro the one for me.

  • I got one 13 inch Mac book Pro. It?s one of the best gadgets I have ever bought. All though it?s a bit heavy on the cash side, but it?s definitely worth every penny.

  • I also have a Mac and got it right before the Air came out. I was upset at first because I liked the air but when you really look, a normal macbook is a much better value. I wouldn't even consider the Air now.
