Relocating to St. Louis
Hi everyone! My husband and I will be relocating to St. Louis this fall. I read the post below, which was very helpful...just had a couple of more questions! I'm thinking we will want to live in the city and are looking for an area that will have restaurants/shops/etc. within walking distance, what are some good areas for this?
Also, how is the public transportation system? We only have one car and we would prefer to have it stay that way. I will be working downtown around Jefferson and 64 (from the looks of it on Google Maps) and my husband has yet to find a job. Would it be easy/safe/convenient for me to take public transportation to work if I live in St. Louis?

Re: Relocating to St. Louis
Like PP suggested, the Central West End (CWE) is a great area there's a good stretch of restaurants, shops, etc. around Euclid Ave. This area is close to public transit.
I'd also recommend the Tower Grove and Shaw Neighborhoods (Compton Heights too) for their proximity to Tower Grove Park and S. Grand which has some really good restaurants. Its also near the Botanical Garden and there's a Farmers Market at TG Park on Saturdays. (I'm a bit biased though because I live in this general vicinity and LOVE it!). There's access to public transit, mostly buses.
University City is just outside of St. Louis City, but The Loop (on Delmar) has good restaurants, shops, etc. as well as Forest Park, which is the largest park system in STL (there are museums, golf courses, etc. in the park, its huge!) and is close to public transit.
I haven't used the Metro (STL public transit) for primary transportation, and I think its just okay. We moved from Boston though, which has much more accessible public transit.

I agree with the above posters. Another possible would be Maplewood, if you would like to live in a super cute burb that's close to the city! I LOVE the shops and restaurants there!

Maplewood is super cute also. I agree with your point about the shops and resturants. MH's favorite resurant in St. Louis is Bottleworks, so we are around there a lot! Didn't they just open that new piano bar/dinner show place there too? I would like to try that out. It seems like it would be more fun than your standard piano bar--of course I am out of the "let's get completely hammered drunk and be obnoxious and loud" stage of my life.
We moved from Minnesota too about 2 years ago! We moved from Minneapolis/St. Louis Park area.
CWE like others said, Lafayette Square is another cute area. The Loop is fun too. Good Luck!
