I had this moment of realization today that I am the foreigner.
I know that probably sounds really stupid, but nonetheless, it was a weird realization. I am the one who looks different, sounds different, has a different style, custom, accent.

Strange isn't it! At first you're thinking, "Woah people you are so weird!" Then you take a nice long look around and realize that you're really the only one who is different. Haha.
Anything specific that you've noticed so far that really was different for you? I hope all is well!

It is a funny moment, isn't it? Personally, I think everyone in America should have to live a year as an ethnic, religious, and linguistic minority. I think it would really help people see what its like being "the foreigner" and how hard it is. Maybe then some of those racist, nativist #$%#^ would cut expats in the US some slack.
When I walk down the street, since I am blonde (well was blonde until I tried to dye it brown and ruined it, eek!) and fair, a lot of heads turn to notice me. I definitely don't blend in. And most people just assume that we are tourists.
Until we went to get a discount card at the grocery store, had to put down my address, phone (which I had to look up, LOL), document number, and then the woman just assumed we spoke perfect Spanish (we did catch a lot of what she said, but it was sort of cool to realize that we live here).
