Tell me about Oreland

In our house searches, Oreland has been coming up a lot. It's in the general area we're looking, but I don't know anything about the town. Any insight?

Re: Tell me about Oreland

  • I'm not sure of the exact boundaries but Oreland is nice.  There are a bunch of golf courses/country clubs around so there is quite a bit of green space.  Other than that, I think you'll have to visit some of the neighborhoods to see if they are hit or miss.

  • What school district is it? Its right next to G-side, which you obviously know. From what I gather its a super small area and it seems to be pretty decent. I don't have much to offer but if it helps..DH grew up in Willow Grove and was super picky about areas he was and was not willing to live and this was on his list of possibilities.

  • The first house we ever "lost" in our home-buying process was in Oreland. Oreland's small, close to Flourtown, where there are some cute little shops, etc.

Things to consider: the fire company. The house we looked at backed up pretty close to it and we asked some people who were like "yeah, it can be loud."

Also - there is a train station there, but I believe it's local only. DH works in CC so a station that ran express was better (FTW or Ambler) for us.

  • This is helpful, thanks! Just wanted to make sure we shouldn't be ruling it out.

    Kernal, it's Springfield, MontCo.

JRM - our current town has 4 volunteer fire stations and is less than a square mile big, so we're not fazed by sirens :)

  • My co-worker lives in Oreland and has lived there his whole life.  I've been to his house and the neighborhood is adorable-- it seems like the kind of area that everyone knows each other and says hello.
