OK...so I'm falling in love with Google+

Background: I try to "never say never", because the moment I do, I always end up doing the thing I said I'd never do! (Got that??)

Well, in this case, it's Google+. When first invited to it, I thought "neat idea, but I can't see ever preferring it over FB"...well...uh. I kinda do now! Mainly I thought that I would have a case of "technology overload" and be burned out on yet another social networking site, but today I had a few spare minutes (shocking for me these days!) at work, and I decided to go over there and play around at another friend's suggestion. And guess what? Loving it!!

There's a lot that I really like, but my favorite feature (which I wished FB had), is that you can choose "circles" and who you put in them, and when you post/share photos/links, you can choose who actually gets to see them. Neat because my friends who hate sports aren't bombarded with my NFL posts every Sunday, for example. And I have a circle for my "A10 Nesties", and I can share things with you girls who may venture over to G+, without sharing it with all 252 of my FB friends. Genius!

I only have about 8 people there now, because I haven't done much with it in the past. But I am adding new folks to my circles. If anyone wants an invite or would like to try it out, let me know! And thanks very much, Mandah, for introducing me to this :-))

Re: OK...so I'm falling in love with Google+

  • I'll give it a shot!

Though the circle thing may bother me cause the stalker in me likes to see the weddings/engagements/babies from all the high school/college friends so I hope the circle didn't prevent that!

  • I love Google+ too!!! Though to be fair, it may be a conflict of interest as my DH is going to start working at Google in January.

I think the circles idea is brilliant!  I also have an "A10 nesties" circle, but I don't see many girls on there.  I am enjoying Holly's pictures though :)

I also like that it syncs with Picasa - so much better than facebook photos!

The feature I have used the most is the video chats - you can have several people video chat at once, it's incredible!  We had 8 people from across the world a few nights ago!  I am using it now instead of skype to talk with my family (especially my uncle in Panama).

Come find me Stacy!!!  Are you "Stacy B"?

  • Hahaha! From what I understand (chime in Madah, if I've got this wrong), you can still choose to post to everyone on your list. And the other neat thing is, you don't actually "see" where people put you...so if someone puts you in a friend circle, you'd see all of their stuff. But if they also have an "aquaintance" circle for people that they "know", but don't know well, those folks won't be privy to more personal stuff that your friend may wish to share - and the "aquaintence" won't ever be the wiser :-)

I'll send you and invite - can you email me your email address? I think you have to ahve a gmail address to join, but not sure!

This is the brilliant part: you can share things with "all circles", which is like posting something on facebook.  Or you can make posts more limited for circles that you create.  I have a "scientists" circle where I can post really nerdy things or pleas for help without bombarding my non-science friends :P

  • Thanks! Ok so I added 4 of you...not sure if I'm missing anyone.
  • Ok how do I figure out who has a profile....I don't want to invite people....but I want to see if I know anyone already on it....is that possible and I'm just being dense?
  • Yay! I think the best way is to type their name in the "search" box. On G+, you have to use a real name, so if they have an account, you should be able to find out there. I made my gmail account back when I was single, and probably should update my last initial to my new married one at some point, to make me easier to find!
