Menu help please?

I'm the MOH for my cousin's wedding the second weekend in September.  Most of the bridal party (including myself) live out of town, and won't be able to get together before the wedding weekend.  After the rehearsal, the bride just wants to go back to her parent's house and relax with us girls.  The wedding is not until 6 pm the next day (it's a Friday night wedding), and so we won't need to go to bed early (our hair appointments are at 10:30 am and everyone is off work).  I have asked her if it would be okay to invite some other female family/friends of hers over and have an "intimates shower" that night, and she said that that would be fun.  Everyone invited will be over 21, there will be some wine and champagne served, and it will be about 10-15 people.

What would you serve for munchies?  We will be coming home from the rehearsal dinner (close by) so heavy food is not needed.  However since alcohol will be served, I would like to have some light munchie around but not the typical pretzels and peanuts.

  • I would definitely choose cheese. Cheese that compliment wine and champagne, like I know nutty cheese go well with red wines, and cheeses with truffle in them go great with champagne. And maybe some sweets too since it will be post-rehearsal dinner? Sweets like small berry tarts, or petite fours, or macarons?

This sounds perfect.  I'd also add some apples and berries but just because I love apples with wine!  Berries would go good in the champagne.  But cheese and desserts sounds great.  Maybe some crackers too- to kinda soak up that liquor?!

  • I'd go cheese, one or two fruits and a loaf of bread plus one sweet like pp mentioned.  I think it's a really nice idea.
  • I'd probably do some cheese and crackers.  Then I'd do a shrimp dip (I can share the recipe if interested) with some bagette, cucumber, and carrots. Some petit fortes or some other little sweet bite would be nice.

I'd also consider having some beer,

  • Thanks everyone for the ideas!  Cheese, crackers, fruit and some sweets sound like the perfect idea.

6fsn, I would love that shrimp dip recipe!  And beer sounds like a good addition too.  I know at least one bridesmaid is more of a beer drinker (she'll drink either, but still good to have around to please more people).

It's kind of a tradition in our circle.  Sometimes it's combined with the bachelorette party, but if time/schedules permit they are 2 seperate events.  It's a time for the younger generation to let loose and spoil the bride with sexy gifts without the older generation getting uncomfortable.  lol

  •  (To be honest I'd skip the fruit.  It's just not something I eat at night.  I'm biased against fruit though.)

The recipe is really simple and a great make ahead.

    14 oz shrimp finely chopped
    3 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup green onion finely chopped
    2 teas sour cream
    2 teas dijon mustard
    1/2 teas hot sauce

Mix together and refrigerate at least 8 hrs.  Adjust the sour cream for whatever consistency you want.  Serve on bread or veggies.

  • A gorgeous cheese plate sound perfect for the occasion. You could add a few crostini to give it a bit more substance. Two of my favorites are

    pesto crostini. recipe here, http://wp.me/p1s1qQ-ol

goat cheese crostini with rhubarb and cherry sauce. recipe here, http://wp.me/p1s1qQ-pX

Hope you have a wonderful time.

    Best, Lo
  • This is my "go to" cheese platter that I make all the time. What you need:

    1) Brie cheese, hot pepper jack and gruyere

    2) salami or turkey slices

    3) olives

    4) bread slices

    5) crackers

    6) almonds

    7) dried apricots

Present it in a rustic attractive way. Fig leaves are a great backdrop for a cheese platter if you dont have a big wooden board.

It's so easy and perfect with pairing with alcohol.Big Smile

You could also make ahead my no brainer homemade hummus and veggies as well. It always gets rave reviews. (super inexpensive and easy to make as an added bonus)
