I dont want to go on my honeymoon :(

Okay, i do...its been a life long dream and i know it'll be amazing....but now that Mickey (older cat) requires meds every day, i just dont trust anyone else to take care of him.  i'm getting so much anxiety at the thought of leaving him for two weeks Crying

i called the vet to see how much it would be to keep him there, and it was insane, as in, over $600!!  plus he'd freak if he wasn't at home.

Re: I dont want to go on my honeymoon :(

  • Oh E, it will be okay, I promise. Can your mom or a close relative come over to give him his meds, and play with him. This will all work out, I promise.

  • I totally get this. We just left our cats for 5 days and still had to call every single day to make sure they were alright. I agree that it's best to keep your pets at home while you're away if it's possible. Is there a pet sitter in your area that could make visits each day or twice a day? Many of them have experience giving meds and dealing with special circumstances. I hope everything works out!

  • Oh, I understand 100%. I can't leave our kitties either. I actually refuse to go away because I am so worried about leaving them. I wish I lived on your coast, I would come watch them for you!
  • awww, that is so sweet!  thank you :)

we're "interviewing" pet sitters w/ med experience next week so hopefully we'll click with one. i just hope our cranky old man doesnt run them off!

i dont really feel like i can ask friends or family on this one b/c he's soooo much work....yeah, and i'm the overprotective "mom" who worries that someone w/o the experience of giving finiky cats IV drips wont be able to do it properly....

  • sorry... luker here... could you get a nurse from your vet's office watch him? Or a pre-med student at a local college? HTH
  • oh no! i'd be really worried about leaving our cats, too, especially if one of them was on an iv. i hope your interviews go well and you find someone who will ease your mind.
  • No suggestions, but wanted to say that you and Mickey will be in my thoughts. Best wishes!

Well, it sounds like you are doing all that you can for him.  I think when the person you choose sees all the love you have for your pet, they will be sure to be extra careful and take the best care of him Smile  You've given him a great life - going on your honeymoon is totally allowed  Smile

  • See if a tech from your vet's office can come to your house to take care of your cat.  He/She will be competent in administering meds.  Enjoy your honeymoon!
