Speaking of bad doggy

Lucy likes to eat poop.  Not her own, and not fresh.  She likes petrified, dried, old crap. Ugh.  Makes me want to vomit just thinking about it.

Anyone have ideas on how to get her to stop?

Re: Speaking of bad doggy

  • Barney did it for a while too (he loves fox poo).  His dog walker ended up using a muzzle on him for a while to just stop it...so he could smell it but not eat. And we have worked on the "leave it" command.  We put down food, say leave it, and when he does for a moment he gets the food - we started with about 1 second and now we're up to almost non-stop.  We have him on lead so we can jerk him back if need be.  It's REALLY helped a lot.  That and "drop it" - he'll now drop almost anything and leave almost anything (give him a toy, say 'drop it', take the bone out and give a treat...eventually they figure out they get a treat if they drop something).  But a lot of puppies will eat poo for a short while and stop on their own...
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • We've already got "leave it" which she does for pretty much anything else, but this she just looks at me and runs away.  The problem is, that she does it generally after she poo's, and she generally won't do that if she's on leash (poo, that is) so it's a double edged sword for me.
  • As icky as that is... Your siggy pic is crazy cute!

  • Ha. Thanks Snowy. :)  I sometimes think that's the only thing that saves her little butt!

Definitely a no on that one Mrs.

  • I don't understand why dogs feel the need to eat disgusting like poop and vomit.  It is so gross!

  • Give her a good talking to... that works w/ our L.  No really.  The phrase, "I'm so disappointed" housetrained her.  Dear Lord help, I've turned into my mother.

Right, so on point-- it's probably hard to do, but bitter apple spray will stop chewing, so I'd say some bitter apple on the poo (assuming you see it first) would stop her in her tracks.
