I woke up this morning and Finn had eaten a hole in the carpet in our bedroom. It's about the size of my hand.
He has never done anything destructive while we were home before and I really don't want to start having to put him back in his crate all the time. He really hates it.
Our vet recently said no long walks or runs for another year as a precaution since hip-displaysia is common in shepherd type breeds so maybe this is Finn's version of a hissy fit over no longer being my running partner? IDK. Anyone with suggestions, I would love to hear them.
Re: really Finn?
yeah, uncharacteristic destructive behavior is how Maggie communicates to us that she is either bored or pissed off. She recently ripped up two five dollar bills and a book. A little ironic that said book was The Art of Racing in the Rain, told from the POV of adog. Anyway, we chalked it up to how much she's been cooped up because we are redoing the back patio.
No ideas though since the vet said no long walks or runs... day care?
Yeah, I think daycare is pretty much our best option at this point.
I hate that he can't run with me anymore though. Of course we want to do what we can to avoid health problems in the future, but come on! Running is one of his favorite things to do.

Naismith is going to need 2 new hips and 2 new knees because of displasia. From my research it is more hereditary than anything. I would still take him for walks, but try to limit his running. If you aren't supposed to run with him, then I don't know if daycare would be the best idea because he would be running with the other dogs. I would try just walking him.
We are probably going to get Naismith 2 new hips and they are $2,500 a piece. But he is only 4.5 years old and I can't imagine him not being able to walk. Oh well...there went Parker's first car...
