... so... I'm friends with a woman on FB from HS. We don't interact much other than occasional comments on each other's posts. We were good friends in junior high, and then drifted in high school, but my senior year, I started dating her older brother, whom I dated for a couple of years. He is definitely the person I refer to as my high school sweetheart.
He and I haven't been in touch in 5 years (we used to e-mail around each others birthdays) and I haven't seen him in about 14 years, since his wedding.
Honestly, truth be told, part of the reason i've stayed friends with her, despite having no aspects in our lives in common, is because I've hoped to see either pics or updates of my ex through her posts. He's not on FB, and she's never had pics of him, until today.
She had a bit of a family reunion, and it honestly didn't even occur to me at first that he'd be in them, until, suddenly, there he was.
And...
He just looks terrible.
He must be 150 pounds heavier than I last saw him.
And his mullet is not nearly as attractive as it was in 1988. He's not bald. His hairline is still good.
And his face is covered in a moustache and a beard. The moustache he certainly had in 1988.
And this is a guy who was always in such great shape, and I am sure he can't believe this is what he looks like now. And it occurred to me that the reason my friend doesn't have pictures of him is probably because he doesn't like to have his picture taken. He didn't even when he was a total hottie.
I know that when we last exchanged e-mail, he was still smoking, struggling with weight, sleep apnea and depression. I guess I just couldn't picture what that all meant, 15 years after I last saw him.
It just broke my heart a little to see him like this. I know it's superficial. I'm sure he's happy and all... I just was surprised and saddened.
That is all.
Re: Ex boyfriend confession...
Hah, ha ha... holy crap. You won't believe what I almost did after posting this.
So, I've got a button on my links bar on firefox for a "Share on Facebook" function, to post a page as a link directly on FB. The button is next to my FB shortcut.
I hit the Share on Facebook button accidentally. I seriously was one "enter button" from totally posting this on FB and having my friend read it.
Thank god it asks you to write something with your post! I could exit quickly!
Wow, I guess it is hard to see such a drastic change.
I used to be friends with my college ex on FB, but he deleted his account.

I was about to write "Oh my, how things change. Guess you dodged a bullet! But I do feel kind of sorry for him." and then I kept going to your next post and busted out laughing. THAT would have been totally embarrassing!
My boyfriend before Nick is on FB and his page is open, well it was the last time I looked a few months ago. He's totally gone nowhere with his life (he does have a job and all but is still the same guy, doing the same things he was in high school) and it makes me sad for him but I'm not the least bit surprised.
