Weekend Trip from London Update

Thanks for everyone's advice!  We've decided on the following itinerary:

Friday - Leave London around noon - Stonehenge - Wells Cathedral - Weston-super-Mare (total drive time: 2.5 hours)

Saturday - Beach stuff in Weston-super-Mare - Plus, the famers market is held on the second Saturday of the month so we're in luck :)

Sunday - Drive to Bath and spend the day there before heading back to London (total drive time: 2.5 hours)

I've reserved a room at a dogfriendly B&B in Weston, so it looks like we're all set!

Any tips or ideas about these places?

Re: Weekend Trip from London Update

  • It sounds like a lovely weekend!

If you have time on Friday, Old Sarum is an old earthworks 'fortress' near Salisbury, and kind of neat.

    Mum to W (4) and M (nearly 2)
  • LOVE Bath...just wander around...it's very cute.  And there are some fab pubs, including a few that allow dogs.  My fav is the Rising Sun.  Also, if you are allowing your dog in the water, you might want a long lead, at least until he/she gets used to it...my dog almost got dragged under in the surf in Suffolk so we're very, very careful now with him.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • Thanks for the tips!  Luckily, we don't have to worry about our dog in the water.  He's a shih tzu and he absolutely hates any and all water - rain, baths, you name it - unless he's drinking it ;)  He's never been swimming and has no desire.  But he does love to run on the beach!
  • Sounds brilliant! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

you must eat at the Moon & Sixpence in Bath. Seriously best food ever. They have tables outside so I would think they would be okay with a dog at one of those.

On the drive back from Bath, you can route it through the New Forest which is amazing to see but will add about an hour to your journey.

You're not the only person to recommend the Moon & Sixpence, so I just looked it up and it recently closed!!!  I'm so sad, because it was supposed to be amazing :(

  • Sounds awesome!

I've been by Stonehenge and to Bath and Wells. And on a funny note, I went to Wells Christmas of '99 and there was a big sign on Wells Cathedral that said "The Millennium is coming, come inside for salvation." Or something to that effect. Surprise

  • That sounds so fun! I think we're going to end up going to Dover/Kent area in late August... but I'll save your trip itinerary for sometime in the future!

  • In Bath - Sally Lunn's bun shop. Apparently Bath is known for their buns, and Sally Lunn's is the best of them all. It also happens to be located in the oldest building in Bath, Go for the tea and make sure you have a bun, I think i had topped mine with cinnamon butter and clotted cream - delicious! Also go downstairs, there is a little museum of how the shop ran pre-modern times. Pretty cool. Enjoy your trip!
