Hi FL Nesties! DH and I will be flying into Tampa Thanksgiving morning and flying out again Monday evening. Can you recommend any places/activities or fabulous restaurants in the Tampa area we shouldn't miss? I've been scoping out tripadvisor.com and it recommends a few places.
Any thoughts on the following?
Big Cat Sanctuary, Yeungling Brewery, Ybor City walking tour, Murielle Winery, FL Orange Groves & Winery, Botanical Gardens, Dali Museum, and Pinellas Heritage Village.
If it helps there will be no kids and DH and I are both architects so we love cool buildings and historic properties. :-) We also love winery/brewery tours. My SIL lives in the Greater Carrollwood area I believe and we'll be able to use her car.
Thanks so much! ![]()
Re: What is awesome in Tampa area?
Hi, here's some recs:
For restaurants:
Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City
Bern's Steakhouse in Old Hyde Park
Frenchy's in Clearwater Beach
Places to Visit:
Dali Museum (awesome architeture of the new building)
The Ybor City Walking tour would be great, it is for 90 minutes and weather is a bit tricky
Tampa Museum of Modern Arts in Downtown is nice but very short
If you both love architecture and historic places, you should take a walk through University of Tampa's campus. It's right on the Hillsborough River near downtown and the main building, Plant Hall, is a national historic site. You might also like Ybor City, which was the historic cigar manufacturing district-turned entertainment district. There's a great local chain restaurant called Columbia in Ybor that is very popular.
Thanks for the responses!
I had also read about the Columbia restaurant so that is on the list!
Will it be too cold to go to the beach in November? Being from Minnesota the concept of it being warm enough to be outside without a parka at Thanksgiving is foreign to me. :-)
Definitely do the Cigar City Brewery too. They have a large tasting room (aka BAR!). It's not like a tour or anything but they have good beer and it's definitely some place to check out!
The Yuengling tour is all right, it's cool to check out but half of the brewery wasn't even brewing anything so we didn't have much to look at.
I did the Murielle Winery tasting and it was fun but I wouldn't call it a main attraction, it was fast. We got there early on a Saturday and there were 6 people there and we stood around tasting some wine and that was that.If it's on your way to do something else or you'll be in the Clearwater area, you should stop. But, it's a winery in a storage unit area so there's not much nearby and not much to look at.
Definitely check out Ybor, it's very historic and can get a little crazy at night!
Head to the beach too.
Me! ::flips hair::
I disagree about Cigar City Brewery. Good beer, but don't go on a tour. Short, small, boring.

Thank you!!! Renzo is German Shorthair Pointer and Boston is a chocolate lab. They are the four-legged loves of my life. :-)
Awesome! Dessert is my favrorite! :-)
Oh, and the Dali is only $10 for adults on Thursday nights.

i just wrote out a long email for another MLer who is coming to town soon.
We're flying in Thanksgiving morning so I'm guessing it will be closed that night. :-( I still want to check it out though!
