Going to Dallas on the 26th

Where should I stay?  The friend we are meeting down there recommended Mansion on Turtle Creek, Zaza?s, Warwick?.  She says Uptown is where we should go out and we should be staying right around there.

She has expensive tastes.  Zaza?s looks really fun but is also $279 a night.  We really would like to stay under $140 a night (Warwick is $134).  Since I have never been down there, I don?t know where to look.  I did a Google search nearby of Zaza?s and came up with all the top line, and top dollar hotels.  I think I need to expand my search.

Re: Going to Dallas on the 26th

  • You can usually get the Fairmount for about $130 a night.

Have you tried Priceline?  You can specify 5 star hotel in Uptown and see if anything comes up.  It doesn't tell you the hotel until after you pay but we've stayed at some pretty nice places for not much more than a Motel 6.

  • I got married at the Warwick.  I love it.  Very nice boutique hotel for that price.  They have a great bar too. The Stoneleigh is nearby but would probably be around $200.  I always assumed the Mansion was crazy expensive and have never even looked.
  • Checked the Fairmont and it?s best deal was $160?.it looks nice though.  I tried priceline, but they don?t have a tab that says uptown, maybe that means they have none.  They have a bunch of nice hotels under ever $100 though!

Is the Warwick within walking distance to some cool places to go out at night?

  • I'm with Stephie on the Warwick.  We weren't married there, but that is where our wedding block of rooms were.  I LOVED the hotel.  There are a lot of things close by, but in this heat you would probably be drenched walking there.  I believe they have a complimentary shuttle (suburban) and will drop you off anywhere though.  Then you may have to spring a few $$$ for a cab ride home.

ETA: As for other hotels, all of them that I can think of are going to be pretty expensive/fancy.  You may want to look at the Hotel Palomar too.  Again a little farther than walking distance, but right next to the dart rail which will drop you off at Lemon & 75 (next to Uptown)

Somewhat.  A few restaurants and bars.  It's closer to some gay bars.  Most people prefer West Village which is too far to walk.  ZaZa is probably more centrally located and it has a great bar/club in it.  You could try the Crescent also.

  • Hmmm.... not a dry heat right now? A 106 is pretty bad...but if you don?t have the humidity we have right now 81 at night shouldn?t be too bad.

Really this was a spur of the moment thing - like decided yesterday because me and a friend have a few days off.  We looked up flights Dallas wasnt bad and my friend has friends and family down there.   I am hoping they will just be our guide, anything I should know about the area since I didnt do my research before hand?

  • All I know is that living here, DH and I take the dogs on a walk around 9pm (sun is down), and after 20 minutes we are covered in sweat.  I would feel disgusting if at dinner or a bar like that.

  • It's supposed to get better weather-wise after this weekend.  It is still close to 100 here at 10:00 at night.  Uptown is a great area, has a park, Turtle Creek, great eating and drinking.  It's where I work, where my DH lived when we were dating, and our favorite place to go.  The nearby Knox/Henderson area is great too but not within walking distance.  And honestly, Dallas cabs aren't great or plentiful (although probably better in the nightclub areas).  You might want to think about renting a car.

Ditto.  We went to the park with my dog last night and it was still 100 degrees outside when we left... at 9 pm...

  • The Joule is a nice hotel, too. This is more downtown than uptown, but it's a cute hotel with a very nice lounge at the basement. It's next door to the original Neiman Marcus.  The service was great.
