Do you think this is enough?

OK I am working on setting up a shower for a coworker. We think we will have about 60 people.  It will be lunch

For Food I currently have on the menu

A full tray of Penne Ala Vodka - syas serves 25

A Full Tray of Chicken and Potatoes (40 pieces)

20 orders of Sausage and Peppers (4 pieces per order) 80 servings.

40 orders of Meatball (I think 1 meatball each)  40 servings

Large feeds 20 1 Garden and 1 Ceaser Salad.

Then I have to get drinks I was thinking 2 liters and some water. How much do you think I should get?

  • Unless I'm confused, it looks like you have 185 servings of entrees and no sides.  You need starches and vegetables and possibly a dessert.  What options for sides are on the catering menu?
  • Agreed with Tar.  You're only veg are peppers and salad.  Ditch the sausage and peppers, get a veggie side, and up the salad too.

Did I miss the garlic bread?

For work I'd probably go cans instead of 2 liters.

  • They do not have an option of veggies, I had Salad as taking care of the that.

    Dessert will be cake.

  • Is there a vaggie pasta at all?  definitely get salad for 60 if there is no other veg.
  • Choose just two entrees.  I vote for the chicken with potatoes and the pasta.  They're both also starches, so you'll only need to come up with 1 veggie and you'll have meat, starch, veggie and salad.

I agree with 6 that garlic bread would be a great addition.

  • Is this for a coworker in the office or out of the office? If this were in my office all that food would be gone so I would leave what you have. I know a lot of catering places don't have too many veggies and in an office setting, it may not really matter (or maybe just in my office). If it's a concern add fruit somewhere in there or to your cake as dessert. Maybe consider adding an eggplant dish?

Drinks. Both regular and diet soda. Depending on the setting I may also do what a PP stated and go with cans. For an office setting, we do bottles. Water and I would buy bottles. If you are picking up bottled soda, maybe add a seltzer, lemonade, fruit punch to the mix.

But the hostesses shouldn't have to pay for the whole office to have lunch...  That's not fair to them.  185 vs. 60 meals is a big difference.

  • It is a company provided lunch shower however I do have a budget. I wanted a little nicer food then pizza. So I am doing a little more then I typically would. This is why I will bring in the drinks as well instead of having them catered as part of the lunch.  I don't mind having a little left over but I wasn't sure if I had enough if people take a little bit of everything.

No, I wasn't saying that she pay for it. I wasn't sure it it was at work or just a friend who happens to be a coworker. We do showers, goodbyes, etc for everyone at work. In the past everyone chipped in. For holidays you pay an "entry fee" or you bring in a dish or a buy a dish and that's your free ticket in. Now we use the Sunshine fund concept.

  • No I honestly don't...you're thinking that people will go through and just choose one of those entrees and they won't, they'll take some of each. Also, you don't have 80 servings of sausage and peppers, unless they are whole links, but I'm assuming those are 4 peices of sausage and people may take more then one. You definitely need one meatball per person, and probably more.

I would start with the caterer. Say, I have 60 people and was interested in these items, what do you reccommend. In my experience they won't oversell you. I just worked with caterer who was honest and said "the fruit trays go fast but the veggie trays you'll be fine with just one...you don't need one cookie for each person"

  • Maybe too many 'meats' (some people may be vegetarians and/or non red meat eaters).

    I would suggest:

2 gallons of Garden Salad (eliminate the Caesar)

2 fully trays of Penne Ala Vodka

2 full trays of Chicken & Potatoes

80 Meatballs (nix the sausage & peppers).

with that and cake, that is plenty.  It is lunch after all...

This is similar to what I was going to recommend as well.
