nyc hotel & restaurant recs
i want to plan an overnight in NYC for our anniversary. while we could really use some r&r, we like to be busy, too.
can anyone recommend a hotel that's moderately priced but still in a decent location.
also, any good restaurant recommendations? and other things to do -- shows/plays (not too into musicals) & other stuff
it's been a while since i frequented the city often & back then we were always eating cheap & not sleeping over
thanks everyone!
Re: nyc hotel & restaurant recs
We recently stayed at the Marcel in Gramercy Park. The rate was decent but we were also there as part of a wedding group so that may have been why. I'd hop online and see what deals are out there through various travel sites.
Definitely check out 230 Fifth for brunch - it's outdoor on their rooftop and looks really awesome. My cousin's wedding was on the other side of the rooftop while brunch was going on. They run it year round, too.
There are a ton of great restaurants - it's all a matter of what you're in the mood for and what you want to spend.

I've stayed at the Westin near Times Square for work, and the W near the Chrysler Building for a friend's birthday. They were both really comfortable, but I don't know what they cost since they were paid for by others. Maybe you could try getting a Priceline deal?
For shows, check out the Blue Man Group. That's really funny.
We went to Del Frisco's steakhouse before a show last year (thanks to some recommendations from this board) and it was very good. We asked for the pre-theater prix-fixe menu. That's really the only "fancy" place we've been in New York ... we usually eat casually in NYC and pick NJ restaurants for special occasions.
What kind of food and atmosphere do you want, and what do you want to spend?
We did a great weekend trip to Morgans Boutique Hotel, then the most awesome dinner at The 21 Club (Halle Berry was there!) then we went to Jersey Boys... Morgans is very cool and breakfast is included. My husband loved it. George Clooney stays in the penthouse suite when he is town.
http://www.morganshotel.com/en-us/#/home/ I got a special they were running and got 15% off.
Watch the place you book- lots of NYC places are on the bed bug list. Morgans is safe. Happy Anniversary!
For night time drinks check out the Hotel Metro...their rooftop bar is right next to the Empire State Building and has an amazing view.
If you are looking for a "spa" type thing, check out Essential Therapy. Their prices are great, they have a hot tub, steam room, etc and I've always had an incredible massage there.
A neat place to check out for food is Eataly. They have restaurants within it, but it's also a marketplace. REALLY fun to walk around and eat.
For dessert (right near Eataly) you can't go wrong with Max Brenners. They have urban smores, chocolate pizza, etc. All fun and yummy:)
I won an overnight from my job 2 years ago. We stayed at the NY Palace in a room overlooking St.Patricks http://www.newyorkpalace.com/gallery.php and ate at Quality Meats. One of the best meals I've ever had: http://qualitymeatsnyc.com/
Then we went and saw Wicked and even my husband liked it. There are a TON of shows to see.
I recommend eating at Max Brenners. mmmmmm it is amazing! We stayed at a hotel for our anniversary, Sofitel. It was in a great location.
Enjoy
