please rec a great ENT

Short story:  I need a second opinion on a medical issue and would love any recs for a great ENT.

Long story:  I found a lump on my throat/neck in late June, waited it out for a couple of weeks in the event if was just an inflamed lymph node of some sort and would go down on it's own.  It didn't, so my GP gave me a round of antibiotics, but that didn't work either.  I had a consult with a general surgeon yesterday, but would like a second opinion just to confirm his "diagnosis," for lack of a better word.

I haven't had any bloodwork, ultrasound, or biopsy done of the lump and would just like to see someone else before either leaving it or having it removed completely, which were the two options the surgeon presented.  From feeling the lump he said there is a less than 10% chance it is lymphoma, but after seeing someone else for a 2nd opinion, I would probably rather have it removed (or biopsied or have an ultrasound done or whatever first) than let it hang out on my neck and cause me worry.

TIA!

  • I just had my tonsils and adenoids out in May by Dr Iris Moore with Central Plains ENT. Its located over off of 78th and Dodge, Cattycorner to the plaza with Panera and Beauty Brands in it.

She was great, made me feel so comfortable! Also is great on follow up

  • Dr Farrell at ENT Specialists in regency.  He did Noah's surgery, is Christian's soccer coach and his wife went to HS with my DH!  He's very nice!
  • I 2nd ENT Specialists...Dr. Ryan Sewell just did an outpatient procedure on kennedy yesterday and he was great.  My coworker is best friends with Dr. Farrell and he is great as well-

This is who I see when my vertigo flares up.

  • I like dr. denman from that same practice.
  • I would recommend either Dr Lydiatt (brothers) through UNMC.  They are head and neck surgeons with a background in ENT.  I'm sure they are pretty hard to get into, but they know their stuff.

FWIW, I have a lump just above my collarbone.  It has stayed the same for about 5 years.  My doc said it was a "dead" lymph node.

Both Drs. Lydiatt are ENTs (aka Head & Neck surgeons) & both are excellent. I have never had trouble getting any patients in to see them in a timely fashion.

Might be worth asking whomever you see if perhaps some basic bloodwork & an ultrasound are in order. Thankfully these are almost always nothing, just reactive lymph nodes (meaning normal, functioning node just responding to some maybe unnoticed illness). But better safe than sorry, if they think it's indicated to evaluate further.

Good luck & I hope all is ok.

  • I have some suggestions where NOT to go.  I'll FB you instead of airing it on a public message board.

Hope it's nothing!  It would bother me not knowing for sure, too.

  • I'm sorry to hear this S! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

We used Dr. Allen at Boys Town for S's tubes and I loved her.  I have had several friends use her too.  However, I'm not sure who to recommend for an adult.  One of my best friends from college was the director of nursing at Boys Town ENT at Creighton before staying home with her kids.  I'll email her to get her opinion and then let you know.

    Hang in there!
