sync two iphones to one itunes account

I got the first phone (mine) to sync to itunes and it will recognize the second phone as a different phone, but when I try to sync the second phone (DH's) it wants to merge all my stuff to his phone.  I'm using a PC is there anyway to keep that from happening?

Re: sync two iphones to one itunes account

  • How do you know it wants to put your phone's stuff on his?

I sync'd two iphones to itunes - itunes automatically separated the two and each one would sync to the correct data...

  • Because when I hit sync a pop message comes up and says it will erase his things and put on mine.
  • can you manually sync it? Or do you get the same message?

  • When I try to manually sync I get the same message "An iphone can by synced with only one itunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents on this iphone with the contacts of this itunes library"
  • did you get a new computer? I read if the phone has been synced to a differently library previously - you can transfer the library files or you have to back up the iphone - then restore - then sync again.   I recommend google-ing the exact message you see, the mac forums will walk you through it.

  • Yes, you are able to have 2 phones on 1 account.

Here is a link to a mac forum:

Also, if you Google "2 iPhones + 1 iTunes" you will find a lot of various forums with information on how to accomplish this with varying situations such as Outlook, etc.

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • This might be a dumb question, but why not just have 2 iTunes accounts? With home sharing, you can both have all the same music, and the need to have different contact lists, apps & picture files make two accounts seem simpler. It is free, after all.
