Voting no on everything but 2 and 11. You?

Re: Voting no on everything but 2 and 11. You?

  • I still need to do my research on all the props.  I know I'm voting no on 8 for sure.  2 is the Animal one right?

  • Is there a website with info on all the props?

  • Hula, you can go to www.voterguide.sos.ca.gov for all the info. on the Props. Be prepared, there is a ton of info and reading!!
  • The Props. I am still undecided on are 4 and 10. I am still researching them. Otherwise I know how I am voting. And I am for McCain also.
  • still working out all the props, it IS a lot to read through.

Funny story re: my McCain/Palin lawn sign: My neighbor had returned from picking up one the their kids from school just as I was trying to leave, and she runs up to me, points to my sign, and says "You're voting for Obama, right?" (and I'm thinking kid, can't you read?) and I say no, I'm voting for the other guy, and her dad says "I haven't really decided. You really think he's better than Obama?" (As if it's like choosing between peanut butter brands instead of diametrically different political candidates) And I tell him that I wasn't such a huge fan of Communism, as it really doesn't seem to be working all that well in Cuba or China or the former USSR, but if he wanted to give it a try he ought to vote for Obama. Then he looked REALLY confused and that was my exit....

  • Obama...and I'm still working on the props.
  • No on everything but 2 and 11 also and I'm not voting for Obama or McCain.

    10 no

11 not sure yet, can you tell me more about it?

    12 no

  • I'm voting for McCain.

I think I am going to vote Yes on 3---the Children's Hospital Bond Act since it would directly benefit my place of employment.

I was going to vote Yes on 2---the animal cage prop, but now I'm having second thoughts.

No on 7---I think this one sounds pretty flawed.

I need to do more research on the others.

  • Do you think there are people out there who vote randomly? not researching both sides of what, why, and whom they are voting for? Voting the way their union or church tells them to? There's got to be some out there. How do you feel about that?

Legally, a church isn't allowed to tell people how they should vote on anything. They would lose their tax status by doing that. There is currently an Episcopal church in Pasadena that is in serious trouble for telling members who they should vote for.

  • Joolz- Very much so!! Every year the Catholic church puts out their "views on the propositions and political candidates" in a handout and passes this out to their parishoners before the election. My Mom got hers in the Church Missal on Sunday.

Typically...being the fantabulous Catholic that I'm not...I tend to look at their views and vote the opposite. I just cannot agree with the idea of taking a proposition, scouring the bible for a passage and then linking the two together. Seriously, is this supposed to sway me???

Blah, blah, bleh...My Church doesn't speak for me, I do:)

  • btw- the hand out doesn't specifically say to vote Yes or No. It basically has the proposition, a bible passage, a link to the Church's website and a forum to discuss your thoughts.

  • Well appearantly my neighbor got their Yes on Prop 8 lawn sign from their church. (edit that: I guess I didn't think of possibility that maybe someone from the church was handing them out, not the church itself). Interesting. Regardless of how you vote, I would just like people to be able to articulate why they are voting certain way, not simply rely on someone else to think for you, i.e. church. I guess that's what I have a problem with. Like when Albertson's was striking, my friend went up to the people striking and asked what they were striking for and the people had no idea and couldn't defend their position. They just went along with what their union told them to do. That bugs me. So that's why I'm thinking maybe not everyone is qualified to vote although we all have a right to vote as citizens of US. If our vote count for anything, I would just like to see well informed individuals voting. I guess I just have faith in our political system and hope for the best on Nov 4th. See you at the polls :)
  • Am I the only one that thinks it's strange how conservative the Los Angeles board is?  lol  Most of the other boards that I typically frequent are crazy liberal.

Where I am, I've seen two McCain signs/bumper stickers...

  • I am voting for Obama and haven't finished deciding on all of the props. I am a Christian, but I absolutely agree with doing your own, thorough research on every issue and making an informed decision.

It saddens me when people vote without educating themselves. This goes beyond religion and includes those who vote based off of commercials, skin color, or a single flyer.

  • Having known people in work unions I must say that some union members are NOT inclined to do research on their own.  It's a shame too.  IMO, it's important to make your own decision, despite church, union, neighbors, friends, relatives, etc, but for some union members...it's part of going along with the flow...supporting their union means maintaining their job.  I don't support nor condone this.  I'm just saying that this may be the case for many people out there.
