Speaking of electric bills....

Our newest one is $338, the highest one we've had so far.  Seems ridiculous but I'm nice and cool, so I guess I won't complain too much. Stick out tongue

Re: Speaking of electric bills....

  • Umm...we just got ours for this month and Indifferent. We talked to the electric company and will be switching to paying based on average. I'm with you though I think I would much rather pay the money and be comfortable than have a very warm house and a lower bill.

This is the way to go.

For years, I have had issues with OG&E - my bills during the summer were low than BAM - November and December bills would be huge.  Then January - May I would have a credit.  Absolutely ridiculous.  Since I started averaging I haven't had this issue.

  • We don't have OG&E, we have OEC but I should talk to them about averaging. Even without a ridiculously hot summer it's annoying to have a low electric bill that jumps up for half the year.
  • We just got ours.... and it was $266! We don't keep it THAT cool (73).

Oh wow. Our last one was $288, but we keep it at 70.

73? 70?  That IS that cool. Granted, both of you have been pregnant most of the summer so it is warranted....but I am not surprised at the cost of the bills if you are keeping it that cool.

  • We keep our around 70 and it varies from $125 to $300 in the warmer months. In the winter our bills are usually anywhere from $250 to $600 (yes I said $600) in which it keep it around 75-80. We are on GRDA and it is crazy high. I am so ready to move out of city limits so we don't have crazy bills.

Oh, I realize 70 is cool, I'm just surprised our bill was only $20 more than her's. Just comparing the two. I'm not surprised our bill has been so high--I know we keep our house cool, and we have a lot of square footage, so I'll gladly pay but I think I'm still going to check into averaging our bill.
  • Mine was $292.  I've been keeping it at 71/74 night/day on my side, 70/74 on H's side, and 78 upstairs all the time.

I just called to do the averaging and it dropped it to 177 for the month, so that works for me.  I like not having surprises!

ETA:  Last month my bill was $301.  So I did a little better this month!

  • I just can't imagine keeping this house at that temperature. We had to run the a/c that low in our old apartment, but I guess this place is better insulated.

78 does it for us. We've even been sleeping at that temperature, and just fine. The body adjusts.

I can't imagine keeping the temp at 78! I think I would have a heat stroke before my body adjusted. Lol Especially with G, that would be way too warm for him. H and I are both hot natured, and our house is 2,000+ sq feet so I do expect a higher bill to a certain extent. Plus, our a/c unit is probably a little small for size of our house. But again, I'd rather be cool and pay a little more than be warm/uncomfortable.

I thought 78 would be too warm, too, but it's not. Like I said, the body adjusts. I am a very warm-natured person, and yearn for days in the 50s. But I can function just fine here on 78. I would rather pay a little less, and know that I'm not killing my air unit and being wasteful by keeping it at a higher temperature during a major heat wave like we had.

Now, the other night, I turned it down a bit because I knew the unit could handle it, and it was cooler outside. That was nice, and I slept well. But I can handle it the other way, too, if I have to.
