Hi there!
I was told to page you with my question about commuting from Gaithersburg to Bethesda. DH will be working at Walter Reed after they open so we're looking around before we move. I saw on Google Maps that it's about 15-20 minutes by car and about 45-50 by metro?
Thanks!

Hi there!
I don't have a perfect answer for you. My husband and I carpool to the Medical Center stop (if your DH is going to be at Walter Reed, he would get off at Medical Center more likely than Bethesda). This way we can use the carpool lanes and we can get from our home (off exit 9 on 270) to Medical Center stop in about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. However, if he (or you) would be driving to the Bethesda by yourself it could take 30 minutes to 45 minutes but as long as hour, depending on traffic, which can be pretty unpredictable. We really haven't done rush hour commute in non HOV lanes very often.
As for Metro, to go from the Shady Grove Station to Medical Center is about 15-20 minutes. But keep in mind that is riding time, does not including getting to the station or waiting for the train. I would check out this site. http://www.wmata.com/
For days DH needs to drop me off at Shady Grove to get to downtown, it is always faster for me time wise than when we carpool but it would leave DH without a passenger so we just go together.
If he is going to be at Walter Reed, and does not need a car during the day, I would encourage metro. I am not sure what the parking rules, fees etc are at Walter Reed either.
Hope that helps!
