Raleigh ladies...

I live in Concord.  Hubby has a job opportunity in Garner, near Raleigh.  I am a civil engineer, right now working for local government (but I hate the public side).  Any thoughts on where to look for a job?  I have no clue where to start.

Any other insight on the Garner/Raleigh area??

Re: Raleigh ladies...

  • Hmmm... maybe try the RTP area. Here's a list with all of the companies: http://www.rtp.org/about-rtp/rtp-companies

DH and I live south of Garner, north of Fuquay Varina, but have a Raleigh area. We love the area. However, if you did find a job in RTP, the commute from our area would take about 45 minutes.

Let me know if you have any specifics. Our area isn't for everyone... it's more rural, but not too country. We are about 10 minutes from grocery stores and some shopping. An actual mall is 25 minutes away.

  • Hubby and I work right on the border of Raleigh and Garner. We live in Cary now and the commute for me is only about 12 minutes and the commute for him is maybe 20 at the most. If you do find a job in RTP Cary and Holly Springs are both great places to meet in the middle. As the previous poster said, Garner isn't for everyone because it is a little more rural but there are some very nice areas to live, you get more for your money and it isn't far from the city at all. My friend is a tax auditor for NC and she said that the government is currently on a hiring freeze due to the economy so you'll definitely want to look in the private sector which seems to work perfectly for you.

A lot of people overlook craigslist as a tool for job searches so definitely check that out. Make sure to get yourself an account on Monster and all of the other job sites. Check out the classifieds on wral.com and newsandobserver.com. Good luck!
