moms who had labor contractions

how did you determine the difference between braxton hick contractions and labor contractions??

yesterday, i had this awful stabbing pain in my back and figured it was sciatic nerve. i've had it since week 20. i also had period like cramps. last night when dh and i were watching tv my stomach got tight on the right side. the pain wasn't intense it was very uncomfortabe. i figured it was RLP. they went away and i slept through the night.  im only 34 weeks and i didnt think it was anything too serious because its too soon but i dont want to start ignoring symptoms that i should be paying attention too.

Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>

Re: moms who had labor contractions

  • My doctor advised me to call if I was having more than 4 contractions in an hour even if they are not painful. In my experience, the labor contractions caused my whole belly to get hard, were increasingly uncomfortable and started to develop a pattern. I did have horrible RLP around 34-38 weeks though that caused very a very painful pulling/cramping feeling just on one side. HTH!

  • This was my experience.

Braxton Hicks are where your whole belly seems to tighten up and hold. Labor pains were very different (when they say you will know I knew) They are internal pains  more like period cramps with a steady time able predictability. If you are having a lot of BH my suggestion is the laid down and drink water. Typically after an hour they will go away.

Even if you have real contractions you will not need to rush off to the hospital the minute they start. Just take an hour to try and find whatever the pattern is. Good luck I know it so crazy at the end every thing you are like is this itSmile

  • Real labor doesn't stop until you have the baby. YWIA. Stick out tongue

Like August said, the whole "this is it!" that you feel all the damn time at the end will make you crazy. I can only speak for myself but I had tons of Braxton-Hicks from when I was about 37 weeks along, they felt tight all over the belly. When I went into labor (on my due date) I woke up at 4 am with period-like cramps that would squeeeeeeze then let go (it almost felt like a massage chair does but on the inside of my body and in a lower area than the BH). I didn't think they were real labor pains because they weren't as painful as my period cramps, but they were consistently coming every 7 or 8 minutes and lasted a bit each time.

  • Yeah BH feel more like a tightening. My real contractions  w/both kids felt more internal,  that I hadn't felt before and I just knew it since they were coming and going. W/ds it was again pain in my hips and back.

  • The week that I went into labor I was having tons of period like cramps, I was also having major issues with my stomach. The 2 days before I had Kevin, I was nauseous and seriously couldn't eat anything. My contractions felt like sharp pains where when I had them I could not talk at all. I also had bad back labor too where it felt like I was being punched in my kidneys. I could not get comfortable at all. Nothing I did was helping me feel better.

My advice is to sit and relax as much as possible and drink LOTS of water. I'm convinced I might have went into early labor because  I didn't drink enough water.

  • I dont know if this is any help but my BH didn't hurt. I would just feel my stomach tighten and get rock hard. When I started having real contractions they felt like period cramps. They started out not too bad and then consistently got more intense.
  • Sorry you're not feeling well.  I would note any type of pain.   RLP become stronger and stronger and the frequency is closer and closer in time.  I had a lot of hip and back pain in my last trimester . I fould out after I delivered that I pulled a ligament in my leg.  I guess the changes in weight distribution combined with the way I got out of bed one morning caused a strain on my body.  I wouldn't  ignore any pain during pregnancy. GL with the remaining weeks.
