I have a Brother CE-4000, it is about 1.5 years old. Back in May, I was having issues with my machine. I took a sewing break, and then started again recently.
Since I was having issues, I brought it to my local machine repair shop. they claimed they fixed it, but as soon as I got home - the same problem happened (which I will explain in a bit). I brought it back, in the "broken" mode and they then "fixed" it again - claiming that they stand behind their service.
I picked it up a few days ago, and today was the first time I could use it.
SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!! Yes, all caps cause I am pissed.
when I picked it up, they told me it was user error, which I doubted since what they told me I was probably doing, I never do. They told me that I was obviously pushing the fabric faster than what the machine was doing on it's own.
So, today - to prove it is not user error, I videotaped it. Seriously, it was 3-4 stiches in and it broke.
The problem is the bobbin casing. My bobbin casing just kinda sits there, and the treads feed though. BUT - the bobbin casing is randomly turning and then the needle hits the bobbin casing, breaking or bending the needle - and then it does not turn back to the normal position so you can't sew.
I normally pull out the casing, take any threads out, clean the inside, etc and then put the casing back in. I then can get anywhere from 5-15 minutes of additonal sewing done. But, seriously - I can't sew like this!!
I have already used compressed air to get any gunk out of the bobbin compartment.
I called Brother, and was told that I need to bring it to an authorized Brother repair shop, which is an hour away. PLUS - I already spent $100 for the service at my local place. Plus, it seems as though I voided the warranty by bringing it somewhere else, yay me. UGH
Here are a few videos, don't mind my pissed off reaction in the first video ![]()
Video 1 - You can see the issue, just that I am not pushing the fabric at all
Video 2 - This is it spinning
Video 3 - You really just see the bobbin in the wrong position
.
Any ideas? I am going to try to get a refund from the place I got it serviced. Especially since it is still not working!!
Re: Help Dx my sewing machine
First of all....NEVER USE COMPRESSED AIR!!! That can make any issues worse by pushing the dust further in.
Secondly, it is hard to tell but it looks like the bobbin case may be the problem. Did you try a new/different case?
Third, that's all I got!

Thanks for the response. Good to know about the compressed air.
The first time in repair, they replaced the bobbin case. Within 5 minutes, the same problem happened.
It is just gonna stink to have to pay for service AGAIN

Where in NJ do you live, exactly? 'Cause I am coming over there to get your money back!
ETA: Use your lilttle brush to loosen any dust and then vaccum it out. I have one of those computer vac attachment kits that attaches to your hand held floor vac.

Have you always used that particular type of metal bobbin with that machine? A lot of machines with drop-in bobbins have a magnet to hold the metal bobbin case in place, so it could be something as simple as needing a plastic bobbin.
I normally use a plastic bobbin, the machine came with quite a few. When I was first having the problem, I switched to metal to see if that would make a difference. - the videos have plastic in some and metal in some
I get the same result with either type of bobbin.

We live in Warren County - maybe we can team up lol. They are not open on Monday, but I left a VM today. We'll see where that goes.
I hate to do it, but if they don't give a refund - I will just do a charge-back on my credit card.
