Cleaning lady questions and recommendations, pls

(Nest Gods, your search function blows.)

I know this has been asked before, but can anyone recommend their cleaning lady?  I just need someone a couple times a month to mop, dust, and do all the vacuuming crap I don't have time to do.

Also, how does it work with letting them in?  Do you give them a key to keep?  Hide it for them to use while they're there?  I'm not sure I'm sure crazy about a complete stranger having a key to my house, but I'm not sure what other do.

TIA!

Re: Cleaning lady questions and recommendations, pls

  • I use Daisy Fresh Cleaning. I wanted a bonded and insured company, and was referred to them. I like them. I used to have them clean on Saturdays b/c of the fact I didn't want a stranger in my house without me. However, I'm not as freaked out now, so we gave them our garage code instead of a key (that still freaks me out.). We can change the code if we get rid of the service of they change. They come every other week. They "spring clean" one room a time, too, and that one gets a little deeper clean then. It's so worth every penny to me!!

  • There are some good ones out there.  What part of the city do you live in?

I'm very happy with Mint Fresh Cleaning (http://mintfreshhomecleaning.com/Welcome.html).  It's a family-owned small business in West O off Harrison. The wife has been cleaning for like 20 years, and the husband, Scott Allacher was the golf pro at Tiburon before the economy tanked.  So they went public, but are MUCH, MUCH better than normal cleaning chains.

Dependable, reputable people.  Great recs. I interviewed several people/companies, and liked them all, but when I met Scott and his wife, I was sold.

They're really easy to communicate with, and they want to make the customer happy.

    I gave them a key.

  • We use Market Klean (don?t let the name throw you off).  We got quotes from a bunch of different places from Merry Maids to individual cleaners.  In the end we went with a mid-level business.  When you call you always talk with the owner and she is very conscientious  and customer oriented.   Their service is totally customizable to do whatever you want, as often as you want.  So we have a full clean once a month and a partial clean in between that (so they end up coming bi-weekly).   Full clean is bathrooms, kitchen, vacuum, dusting, windows, etc.  Partial is just vacuuming, kitchen and bathrooms.   And we just have them skip our basement since it barely gets used.  They send a crew of usually 5 people and they whip through our house in 45 minutes.

You can do whatever you want as far as entry, but after the first few visits (which I was home for) we started setting up a temporary garage code for them to get in.  We didn?t want to give them a key or our permanent code.  It works fine and now I prefer to just not be there when they come.  Coming home from work to a clean house is a glorious thing.  I still get giddy and we?ve been using them for a year and a half.  Love.  Do it.

That sounded bad.  I MEAN...they do cleaning, errands, dog poop removal, mowing...they're pretty much your own minions.
