Making your own laundry detergent?
Has anyone done this?
What is your experience with it (any tips), and is there a specific website/recipe that you like to use?
Re: Making your own laundry detergent?
We make our own powder detergent, mainly because it's SO much easier than liquid. Recipe is simple: 1cup borax, 1cup grated bar soap (I use ivory), and 1cup washing soda. Mix it up and it's good to go! If you want it to have a sent, just buy a sented soap instead. We've been making it for a little over a year and I'm in love!
I make liquid soap; I've tried three different recipes, and for me, the Duggar recipe separates the least: http://www.duggarfamily.com/content/duggar_recipes/30455/Homemade%20Liquid%20Laundry%20Soap-%20Front%20or%20top%20load%20machine-%20best%20value
I shake it before using to help disburse the clumps of soap.
This is what I do, except I use Fels Naptha soap instead of Ivory.
All the components can be found on the laundry aisle of your regular grocery store.
I microwave the soap until it swells up -- then, after it cools -- it's much easier to crumble with my hands.
After I mix everything together I put it in the food processor to make it into a fine powder.
Use 2 tbsp per load (I have a front loader).
This.
I also make a similar powder....but I use 1 bar of Kirk's Castille and just 1/4 of the Fels Naptha bar (along with the borox and washing soda).
I find that my Bella Rocket (like the magic bullet) produces a finer powder than my big food processor.
