iTunes

I am trying to move all my music files from my work computer to my laptop computer because with my new system my tech support doesn't think iTunes will be allowed :-(  In moving them over to my laptop when I click on an album to open it all the songs say it cannot locate the original file and therefore can't play it.  And also all the songs I purchased through the iTunes store within the last year aren't coming up even with registering my email with the iTunes I downloaded to my computer... how can I get those back?

Also, my ipod wants to sync and delete everything off of it when I plug it into my laptop... is there away to keep from losing the songs and playlists on there and just put any new songs onto my ipod?

Thanks !!

Re: iTunes

  • Did you use a external hard drive to move the music over?
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I figured out the first half to my question... when I first copied them to a USB drive to copied them from itunes instead of the actual folder so I got them all moved over and will play now but now I can't download previous purchases.  I upgraded to the 10.3 it says to do so that option is available however it shows no previous purchases even though I am using the same apple id that I used on my computer.

  • To play the songs you've purchased, make sure you've "authorized" the laptop through iTunes.  Ways to transfer music:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1727

You can tell iTunes to not sync your iPod before you plug it in, that will keep it from syncing and deleting everything.  But I don't believe you can add new songs without syncing.

Here is how to move what is on your iPod into iTunes... then you can sync everything you want back to the iPod at once.
