do you have a home phone?
we're thinking about getting rid of ours. we really never, ever use it except to pick it up and go "oh, 1-800 number, don't answer it".
are there any real cons to only using cell phones (we have five between the four of us)?
Re: do you have a home phone?
We have one as part of our cable bundle. We never use it. In fact, the ringer on the phone is turned off and I'm pretty sure that the phone itself is broken too. But we never use it so it doesn't matter.
We keep it though because it's more expensive for us to get rid of it.
Similar reason here. Our cells dont work in the house due to living in the boonies and having lots of insulation. Since I work from home some days, I had to have reliable service... Alarm too, they tried to set us up on cellular for the alarm but it was too finicky so we went with a home phone.
This. I call some people from it, and I use it if I'm calling an 800 number just becuase it is easier to walk around the house while I'm on hold with some warranty person or something.
Cooper seems to think when it rings it is for him. He gets so upset if we don't answer it...I've started answering and handing it to him.
we have one for our fax and internet but we don't use it as a phone. I do like having it in case someone is babysitting with no cell or in a 911 emergency it's backup. (living with no power and no cell reception for a couple months makes these things stay in the back of my mind).
We have it - pretty much just for the alarm system. I also like to give it out when asked for my number and I don't want someone to have my cell (if it's a survey, application, etc.). I never answer the home phone. It is 99% telemarketers and 1% DH's grandmother, who really just wants to talk to him, anyway, so I let her leave a message. :-)
ETA: Forgot - DH has to fax things sometimes, so he uses it for work, too.
Yes, I use it since I work from home, my office has my home number to call me at. Also, our cell phones are still 713 area code and out here you don't have to dial the area code to call locally, so we give it out to the school, DD's friend's, etc. to have a local number.
I prefer to talk on the home phone over the cell phone, but DH is the opposite. He'd get rid of it if he could.

Verizon has an iphone... It has great coverage, except at my desk... and the house we rented in Maine.. Everywhere else it's great
We do. We have the most basic line for 2 reasons: 1) My girls don't have cell phones yet and I want them to be able to dial 911 at all times and not have to give our address, etc in an emergency situation (and me not have to remember to register the info, etc) and 2) alarm.
It's also the number Micaela is allowed to give her friends right now, so I'm not paying 'per minute' for her to talk about nothing. lol
We have one but it's the company/office phone which i do not pay for. The huge plus is that it still works during storm where there is no power and high traffic cell usage- Ike.
If I didn't need it for work we probably wouldn't have one.
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
i haven't had one since 2003.
the only cons i've found: alarm systems (to have it sent to your cell is more expensive) and ppv (i have a satellite card so no hardwired internet either)
We have one for emergencies and also for Maddie when she starts using a phone. I wonder if it's worth the expense and have considered getting rid of it and setting up my personal cell phone to be the "home" phone. I can't let go of the number but carry 2 cells - one for home and one for work. That is getting OLD. And if I port my personal # to work I can't get it back if I leave.

We currently just have cell phones, and have for about 2 yrs now, but I'm planning on adding a home phone (in a cable bundle package) when we move...hopefully in the next few months.
We have decent cell coverage in the house but it would be nice not to worry about it. Plus I'd like to have a home phone in case of emergencies.
we have a land-line, but it is the most bare-bones package you can get. it's only about $25/month.
during Ike when there was no electricity, our land-line phone still worked, and let us (and our neighbors who didn't have land-lines) call our families and stay in touch. that's a major reason we keep it.
also, for whatever reason, our cell reception in our house is not very good.
we very rarely use our land-line. in fact, most of the time when it rings, I don't pick it up because it is very likely a telemarketer (we don't have caller ID). i figure if it's important, they'll either leave a message, or call me on my cell.
Yes, for many of the reasons others stated:

Me too. If someone calls my cell and I am at home, I call them back from land line.
we do.
it gets used for local calls only, but we have to keep it because of our alarm.
I also insist on having a corded phone in the house - beside our bed.
