Need brutally honest opinions please!
I'm *this* close to biting the bullet and registering the catering business with the state. But I'm still a little gun-shy about the name. I know once I register it, I'm stuck with it. So I'm a little committment phobe right now. So help a girl out, and BE HONEST. You're not doing me any good by lying to me!

SS: Remind me again why you decided on that particular name? I mean, I get carrot/carats but how come the 18?
updated 10.03.12
It's cute, but there will be people who will assume that carrots will be in everything.
because there's already a 24 Carat Catering? And common carats are 18 and 24. I think the play on words is cute, lends itself to sweet and savory (not limiting myself to just sweets). Got the idea from the 18 Carrot Cupcakes I made last year.
A random other perk: it would be at the top of any alphabetical listing.
I don't really have any other ideas. When the brainstorming occurred last month, it was my favorite of any idea I (or anyone else) had. But I'm still not convinced it's the best, you know?
This is a big bonus since people tend to call the first they see and go from there. I'm just not 100% sold on the 18 Carat Catering name. Although incorporating a number is a good phonebook marketing strategy.
I agree that it's a good phonebook marketing strategy, but I think it's too cute. Does that make sense?
I think it would be great to have a story behind the name of the business. Something that means something to you or the start of the business?

Our last name ALWAYS gets mispronounced. I hate it. I hate it enough personally, I don't think I could handle even more people mispronouncing it in my business. And I'm looking for something a little more catchy.
Gotcha. I totally understand that! I'm trying to think of something clever, but I've got nothing:/
<a href="http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h205/adia83/?action=view
I dont love it, but I also dont have anything better to add.
My new favorite blog title is Crepes of Wrath though if that helps
love it!
See, I think I like 18 Carrot, but I'm not sure I love it. But I can't think of anything I like better. So do I just go with it, or sit around and wait (for how long?!) until I think of something better. You know?
I get it, its a big step.
If you were opening a brewery I would vote for Lindsay's Libations. But, I got nothin for catering. Sorry friend.
Well obviously I love it.
I'm not sure what you have in mind, or what you've thrown out....
but, here are some ideas I came up with:
Crave Catering
Cuisine for You
Thyme to Eat
....I don't know.
Just trying to help!
you know, I've actually been doing a lot of that (doing it right now, actually). But I want to be able to own the website domain of what I choose. So even if there's no similarly named business in Colorado, if a catering business in NY has the same name, then they probably own coolcateringname.com and I don't to have to use a different name for the website, you know?
Might sound silly, but I ran into that with Sugar and Spice. There are no other CO Sugar and Spice Catering companies, but other states took sugarandspice.com and sugarandspicecatering.com. I don't want to confuse potential customers because they can't find the right website, you know?
Oh good point. Could you do something like sugarandspiceco.com or sugarandspicedenver.com? IDK. Maybe not the best suggestion, but if you have your heart set on a name I wouldn't count it out just because of the domain name. It's hard to think of something that literally no one else has..... I guess that's why so many people just use their name.
I do like the use of the word crave.
I like Sugar and Spice!
If you could use sugarandspiceco.com that would work well!
I liked Crave too, just not sure about the best way to use it...
there are literally a hundred Sugar and Spice caterings though, seriously. Google it. It's crazy.
What about the backside of that phrase - Everything Nice Catering? never mind, that sounds kind of weird....
is Sweet-N-Savory an option?
I like the phrase and think it's professional/cute.
Maybe?
Not a huge fan...I agree that it's kind of cutesy. I might be willing to forgive it if you were already established and had good reviews I could read, but as a start up, that name screams "SAHM who got bored." :
My favorite local catering company names are Amphora, Bittersweet, and Firehook.
If you like sugar and spice, maybe look at other common expressions for inspiration??? I just googled and found this list. Maybe change a word or 2 or use another food inspired one (I only glanced quickly, saw pie in the sky, don't know if there is any more.)

ooh, thanks for this! I'm off to group now, but I'll definitely look through it
Yeah, I think you can do better girl. I think 18 carrott catering doesn't roll off the tongue enough, but agree it is a good phonebook marketing strategy.
I like the idea of something with "thyme" in it, cute but might get something that sounds better.
"sweet thyme"
I think someone mentioned something before about "thyme to eat"
ooh, ooh, what about "not enough thyme"?
It is a big step (and a fantastic step) but I agree, you really want to LOVE it.
I love "Sweet Thyme" !!!
And I just checked, the URL is available.
Going along with thyme lol....
Nothing but thyme
It's about thyme
"Sweet Thyme"
Stinkin' cute, and still professional. Easy to print on cards, and matches catering services.
Love.
