Portland Staycation

My H and I have a 5-day weekend to celebrate our first anniversary.  Days 3-5 we'll be in Florence.

Ideally, Days 1 and 2 will be in Portland but not sitting at home.  We need to make plans so that we avoid sitting around doing house/yard work.

Any ideas??  You'd think this would be easier to plan... but we're stumped.

Re: Portland Staycation

  • International Rose Test Garden/Arboretum, Japanese Gardens, hike in Forest Park

    a PDX pedicab tour: http://pdxpedicab.com/Brewery_Experience.html

any hike in the gorge. My favorites: Eagle Creek back to Punch Bowl Falls (you have to see that if you live here), Dog Mountain on the Washington Side though further east across from Hood River, any of the waterfalls, Angels Rest.

you could rent kayaks on the Willamette

    Spend an afternoon at Powells

A portland walking tour.  google it for organized tours or create your own

Pittock mansion and a picnic on the lawn overlooking the city

  • Brewery tour, Shanghai tunnels, the zoo, hike through Washington park, Multnomah Falls...all the touristy stuff people generally never do in their own town. :-)
  • I'd probably have a downtown day. either just walking around and exploring the pearl, going to powells, shopping, etc, followed by a happy hour (maybe city grill so you get a good view of the city), then maybe a movie at mission. or you could do one of the tours (breweries, underground, epicurious).

Then a more outdoorsy day w/ some combo of a walk in forest park, picnic and walk in washington park, eat/hike at multnomah falls, kayaking, timber's game.

Sauvie Island can be fun to drive around and explore too. There's also all of the wineries near Dundee.

There's so much to do it's hard to pick! Are you guys looking for more artsy things, outdoorsy things, urban stuff, or are you just open to anything?
