Didn't want to hijack Pitt's thread below, but if you hated 'What to expect when you're expecting,' why did you hate it? Anyone who liked it out there?
Re: 'What to Expect' Haters
I read it and do not rec. it.It is just scary. I think being PG is scary enough and I think people need information but there should be other ways to deliver it.
G-d willing I have a 2nd child I will be reading something else.
I agree with everything that was mentioned above, plus I found a lot better information on the website and the book I bought DH. It definitely focuses on the negative aspects of pregnancy and what could go wrong.
Wonder why all those crazy bump ladies flip their sh!t and run to the doctor at the slightest strange symptom? They are probably all reading WTEWYE.
My Israel Blog!
I didn't like it at all. I thought it was way too focused on what could possibly go wrong with your pregnancy, plus I found more useful information on random websites. I ended up worrying needlessly at the most random twinges, esp. since I had a previous miscarriage.
I had a really old version that basically had a diet plan written out with what I should be eating everyday for optimal nutrition. When I am dry heaving and only feel like cheese and crackers I do not want to read that I should be eating lean red meat with steamed vegetables! (I did eat better once the morning sickness passed of course). I read the scary parts and I had placental abruption so at least I knew what was going on, but remembering what the type said about the high risk of mother and baby dying when I was on my way to the hospital didn't really help.
I liked it. It didn't bother me at all and I never read any part of it and started panicking. It's odd, because I've heard a lot of people say that about the book and even when I would have something happen to me, I'd look in the book and felt reassured that it was normal. Then again, I had a pretty easy pregnancy. I also didn't really look at a lot of books so I don't know if I would have hated it if I had another book to compare it to.
I only got one other book and that was "You! Having a baby". I didn't really care for that one.
