Moms.. anyone been induced?

I had my 41 week appiontment today and still no progress. I was sure I had dilated some as I have been having contractions for the past week. Luckily my doctors are willing to let me wait until 42 weeks. I was planning on a natural birth so I am bummed about a possible induction. Induction is scheduled for Monday if nothing happens by then. Can anyone share their experience?

Re: Moms.. anyone been induced?

  • Not sure if you saw this post, but I have my birth story in here, along with some details about the hospital for Sikes. If you want to talk more let me know. I tried my hardest to go natural, and had I progressed with the pitocin, I think I could have...but being stalled at 4cm for so long on the pitocin, I couldn't take it anymore. I'm sending you tons and tons of natural go into labor dust! However, I do have to say after getting the epi, I wouldn't have changed a thing. I still had an amazing birth experience and my baby girl is just perfect.

  • I went in for an induction at 38w (low fluid) but ended up with an awesome, 7hr all natural birth. I had some cervadil & my membranes stripped at about 1pm. I was supposed to start pitocin at 8am. Long story short, the cervadil came out at 3am & I went into hard labor around 4:30am. G was born at 11:34am.

Keep the faith! The on-call Dr even said I'd need a c/s "either now or later" but everything worked out. Make sure you have some serious support (hubby, family, friends, whoever) & let *everyone* know you want to go natural :)

Good luck & labor dust :)

  • I wasn't induced specifically, but I did wind up on pitocin because I wasn't progressing fast enough (I was 40w6d).  I had an epidural before pitocin was started, so luckily I didn't have to experience the pit contractions.

I am sending natural labor dust your way!

  • I know what you're going though. When I was over due with no signs of labor, I really felt defeated. I hated scheduling the induction, but for some reason my body does not go into labor by itself (I've had 2 now). The pitocin is tough, but I know you can handle it. Just practice whatever techniques you've learned and it should help you some. But don't be afraid to get the epi if you feel the need for it. Inductions are not easy (not saying natural is either), but with mine they kept upping my dose every 30 mins because I was not dialating. No matter what, remember you'll have that sweet baby soon  :)
  • What are you trying currently? Some things that my doula recommended was walking, sex, nipple stimulation (I pumped), castor oil milkshake, Evening Primrose Oil supplements, walking curbs, massage, climbing stairs and chiro adjustment. As for walking the curbs, one foot on the curb and one on the ground to try to help open your pelvis.

I scheduled my massage and roughly 24 hours my labor broke. My doula recommended using http://healingwaterstherapy.webs.com/. If you schedule, tell Kristi this is to assist with natural labor induction versus medical induction. She seemed like a nice lady.

I tried everything above due to trying to avoid a 39.5 week induction. It worked.

  • I have tried walking, acupunture, sex and all the OWT's regarding foods. I am not sure about the castor oil. My hypnobirthing instructor advised against it. I will check on the massage tomorrow. I am actually in pain from walking so much the massage would be great even if it doesn't work. I think I might bust out my breat pump as well.

  • Thanks for all the support. I have been feeling really down today but hope I can get some rest and wake up tomorrow with a positive attitude.

  • Take a day to lounge around, if you can. It may help you relax. You can do this.

FWIW, I ended up needing some pitocin to keep things progressing. You will have your sweet baby girl in your arms, this time next week!

  • I am sorry that you are going through this.  I  ended up having my membranes stripped 3 different times and the 3rd time was a charm.  I hope LO decides to show up soon!!

  • It's so depressing to be under the gun like that (I was 10 days late) but don't get discouraged! Definitely get a massage and then try the chiro or acupuncture. Or all of the above. Can't hurt, and it might help. Might be just that the baby is a wee bit out of place and something like that will jiggle it into position, and bam, labor. If you do end up needing induction, the great news is that since you're already progressing a bit on your own, you're in the best possible situation for a successful induction.
