Hello all - thanks for the help last week with the straight line quilting. It's not perfect but it is significantly better looking than before.
I need to wash the quilt on Thursday night and I was wondering what settings on the washing machine to use? Also can I run it through the dryer on an air-dry cycle? It's supposed to rain every day for the rest of the week so air drying it outside is no longer an option. Thirdly, what is a colour catcher? Where do you buy them usually (LQS, Joanne's?) and do I need it for a quilt made entirely of unwashed new moda and kona solid fabric. The binding is a dark brown and the sashing is Kona snow. I'm most concerned about the binding bleeding into the sashing but if I wash it on cold it should be ok?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Where to get colour catchers?
I think you can buy the color catchers in the laundry aisle.
These: http://www.amazon.com/Shout-Color-Catcher-Dye-Trapping-Cloths/dp/B0000DIWJF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313587574&sr=8-1
I think if you use the color catcher and wash it on cold, you should be fine.
Stand up for something you believe in.
If the quilt is made for heavy use and washing, a gentle cycle and then air or low heat through the dryer should be fine.
For more delicate quilts, hand wash. To dry, press out as much water as possible (but do NOT wring!). Then, lay the quilt on clean towels or blankets and roll it up with some pressure. This will take out more water. Then lay flat to dry.
You should never ever hang wet quilts, though. The water loosens the fibers and the extra weight can pull it all out of shape.
