Disbanding?

For the past two weeks, the company I work for has been kind of crazy. My co-workers have all been stressed and VIP's to the company have been stopping by. Yesterday, I just found out that the company is disbanding. There are five of us "Administrative Assistants" and only two of us were not told about all of this, myself being one of the two. Yesterday, the other girl who wasn't informed was let go, and another woman who has worked here a long time quit. I spoke with the two secretaries left and they have no clue what's going on. One of them told me to start putting my resume out there. The head boss we all work for, is going out on his own, and hasn't told us if he wants us to go with him or not. He is also a friend of my family's, so I can't decide if that's why he hasn't said anything to me yet.

Anyway to my question... I don't like my job, I have posted about it before. I have already started applying for other jobs just in case, but to be honest I'd rather just be done here now. I would like to talk to my boss and thank him and tell him about my thoughts to apply closer to home so I can use him as a reference, but my FI thinks it's a bad idea. I just want to be honest (even though he wasn't with me) and also, I don't want to waste my time and gas money being here if I'm ultimately not going to stay with the company. Any ideas on how I should go about this?

Re: Disbanding?

  • I would not quit unless/until you have something lined up or they actually disband. They may give you some sort of severance package, etc., and quitting right now may eliminate that prospect.

So I'm with your FI on this one.

Thank you for your response, I was very stressed this morning and I appreciate you giving advice. Unfortunately, even worse news got around today and it looks as though myself and the company won't be here much longer anyway.
