AW: apparently I'm a great stepmom :-)

I went to parent's night at SD's school last night. DH couldn't go b/c he was not feeling well & EX didn't go so, it was just me. Parent's night went well & as I was leaving one of the other parents (that I've only met once before) asked me if SD had a good summer. I told her that we had a great summer b/c we surprised her with a trip to Disney. We talked for a few minutes about summer vacation & then she said,"I'm so glad that SD has you."  Before I could think I said, "Me too." I explained that I didn't mean that in vain way, just that I felt lucky to have such a great SD & that I couldn't imagine it being any better.

My heart just swelled with pride.

It was just what I needed after being so bummed about the possiblility that I didn't ovulate this month. It re-inforced that all of this is in God's hands & that if DH & I can't get pregnant I already have a wonderful child in SD.

Awww of course you're a great stepmom! You really care about SD and it shows with all your frustration with EX (who is a lame mom not going to parent's night!) and how poorly she handles her child. I am sure the other parent said that because they must know EX :-) SD IS lucky to have you, and she will be grateful more and more as she gets older and may exclude her mom when she can because you're so great and have built trust, she'll be coming to you instead.

It's so nice to be reassured sometimes of the things we already know, but don't give ourselves enough credit for.  You ARE a great SM to her, and she's extremely lucky to have you.  I'm happy that it made you happy to hear that

You are a great step mom!!!    We both are.  It's nice to hear compliments from people about that, isn't it?  I remember talking wiht Amanda about how divorce affects kids (discussing my friend & her husband) and said how sometimes it works out for the best when people don't want to be together anymore and that it's a blessing in disguise in the end; she said "yeah because if mom and dad didn't split up I wouldn't have you."  That made my day.

Yay for being recognized but another parent! Sometimes even if you know its true its always awesome to hear it said out loud!

That is awesome.  It's so nice when the child, friend or another parent recognizes the stepparent for all they do & love that they give. You're right, we are great stepmoms!
