interview attire

I have a job interview and I need help deciding what to wear.

option #1: blank pants, solid colored top, with black suit jacket, and closed toe shoes

option #2: black pencil skirt that goes just over my kneew, white or solid coloed shirt, with cardigan and skinny belt

a couple of questions...is it inappropriate to wear a skirt with bare legs?  do you always wear closed toe shoes for an interview?  i always ge mixed reviews on his

sorry for all the typos...i'm on my phone and it won't let me go back an edit for some reason.

thanks!

Re: interview attire

  • I would do #2.. might make you stand out a little more in their minds since you're a little homely!

I would say bare legs are fine, but I would for sure wear closed toe shoes.. at least until you get the job!  Good luck hobag!

  • I say option #2, but wear pantyhose and closed toe shoes.  Even at my laid-back company, you're expected to wear hose with a skirt.  Not all companies are like that, but it's always better to overdress than underdress for an interview.  Good luck!

  • It depends :) If a marketing job or any job where you need to be creative, #2. If non-marketing, #1.
  • It is in fact a marketing job ;-)

ahhhhh....I dont even own hose...ick!  do i wear nude ones or printed.  i do have some printed black tight/hose.

i hate interviews btw!  and i hate amy too!

  • I think option #2 and I don't think hose are necessary. I would definitely do closed toed shoes. Especially considering the field. I think tights would be great if it were cooler out but I think it is too early in the year to wear them now.

  • I'm surprised I'm the only one who thinks Option 1 so far.

Option 2 is what you'd wear to the office on a typical day at work; option 1 is what you'd interview in - maybe just funk up the accessories a bit.  You're a hottie, L; you will make the suit look good.

  • I'd say option one, but with a color top if possible.

  • Absolutely Option 1. Option 2 is too casual, IMO.
  • Another vote for Option 1!  I think it's more of an interview outfit.   2 isn't quite dressy enough, imo.

  • Option 1, I think suits are a must for interviews, whether you do a skirt or pants.
  • On other boards they always say to wear a suit. I have had many interviews for Accounting and Legal jobs and have never owned a suit, let alone a suit jacket! I always wear black pants, closed toe shoes and nice top. I think wearing a skirt is fine as long as it isn't tooo short. But you are skinny so being at the knee won't be bad. I would wear panty hose if it goes with the shoes. You can get a cheapy pair at Walgreens. I would wear a skirt to an interview but I don't own any dressy ones. Most of the time you interview though you sit at a table (at least in my experiences) so I think as long as the top half looks really good - jewelry but nothing flashy, hair and makeup nice, then you should be fine.
  • I would say Option 1 but I have an interview tomorrow and will probably do a version of option 2 because I know the department has casual Fridays and my department is business casual so everyone will know something is up if I deviate too much from that and the departments are just steps away from each other.

What type of company is it?  It is a company that is suits dressed anyway...then go with a suit.

If not, I would go with Option 1 still just do not be too stiff with the look.

I have a friend who has interviewed for jobs and was offered the job and never wore suits.  She just wore a skirt a plain top and sometimes tennis shoes.

  • What about a dress?  I may have an interview coming up.  I have a CK navy pin stripe skinny sheath-type dress.  Sounds like I need to find some closed toe shoes though.
  • Well I went with the black suit jacket, with a really cute printed black and white dressy high neck tank, that had some ruffles in the front for detail.  i think he interview went well!  If i get a second interview I will have to wear a cardigan or dress.  we'll see! Thanks for all the helpful advice!

  • I've always worn something like #1 to every interview I've had.  And I've always gotten the job.  ;)

Fingers crossed for the 2nd interview!
