Dyson: ball or no ball?

I'm trying to decide between the regular animal or the ball animal.  The ball animal is thinner so it looks like it'd fit under furniture better but I'm worried that it doesn't work as well for some reason.  Thoughts?

I don't have any opinions as between the two, but we just recently shopped for vacuums, so I have the consumer reports info fresh in my mind.  The Hoover Windtunnel T-Series Rewind got the same or higher scores in all areas and is almost $500 cheaper.  Dysons were in general surprisingly far down the list on the performance ratings to me, considering the price.  The regular Dyson Ball was way down there.  I ended up getting a bagged because they were rated better than the bagless, so I can't give personal experience.

  • They work equally well.  I have the ball and love it,  I find it easier to maneuver then the regular animal.  If you can go to a store where you can test drive both of them I would suggest that because the ball does have a little bit of a different feel.

I agree and have friends who swear by it too.

  • I've never used the ball-type, because it came out about a month after we got our regular Animal.  I will say that ours is pretty darn heavy - I think the ball-types are lighter?

  • I've never had a non-ball, but the ball is so easy to use, the LO can do it... He gets bored easily, but he "can". He couldn't with the old back and forth hoover
  • I have the DC17 Animal. My mom loves it and got the new Animal ball. We both found the suction to be less strong as nonball so she got the current Animal without the ball.
