job vibes
I hope this is the last time I need to post this.
I got a call today to interview for a 5th grade position. I missed the call so I will have to set it up tomorrow. This will be my 6th interview for this school year. I know the job market is super tight for Elementary teachers so I'm trying to keep my chin up. Trying to keep thinking, "they ARE calling." But I really need/want a teaching job. I can't afford to stay at the daycare - and I don't know what else I could do that would make me anymore $.
So if you ladies could think some good thoughts and send some job vibes my way I would greatly appreciate it.
Edited to add: I was just looking at the school's website and realized that is where my neighbor works. She also graduated from HS with me. I sent her a message on FB and she said she would love to chat and fill me in. I am going to take her up on it! I'm feeling good about this.
Also - I was talking to one of the mom's at my day care who is a teacher. She said not to mention the fact that I have a baby. I know that they can't ask. She said they might make the assumption "new mom + new teacher = too overwhelming" -- I hate to believe that but I was 37 weeks at my first 3 interviews and I did mention it at the other 2. I didn't get any of those. -- I find that they ask, "so tell me about yourself, something we wouldn't learn about you from your resume?" so WWYD?

This is how I got my part-time teaching job last year. I taught 5th grade math. I loved the school I was at and the teachers loved me (I think) but my principal retired and my assistant principal moved schools... so I'm back to square one. I'm really hoping this one works out.

If they ask you, you could tell them about your hobbies one of which could be spending time with your family. This way you are not lying about being a mom, but still telling a little bit about yourself.
I was thinking about mentioning that I enjoy running and scrapbooking, spending time with my family fits right in there. Thanks!
I definitely think you being super pregnant weighed in on your last couple interviews, which is unfortunate b/c you were probably just as qualified as other candidates. Even though they obviously can't/shouldn't discriminate, they could tell you were going to be having a baby soon and could have factored that into their decision, even though it's wrong.
If they ask the "tell me about yourself" question, you do not need to say anything about your family life. I would stick to something safe about hobbies, your personality, where you live or grew up, some special things you'd like to do in the classroom, something interesting about your schooling or experience.
