My iPod has the white screen of doom.

I say doom because this is killing me.

It randomly went white tonight. I'm googling and Apple told me to try turning it off and on, using the hard reboot (holding the home and power keys simultaneously) and when it turned back on, the screen was all black.

When I got home, I reset it. Screen is still white. :(

It's been putting all my music back on my iPod so once it's on there, I'm going to try getting it out of DFU mode (thanks to youtube), but I'm pretty downtrodden here. It's an hour and a half drive to the closest Apple store AND when MIL bought it for me for Christmas, she got it off eBay and not an Apple retailer. It was NIP, though. :(

Re: My iPod has the white screen of doom.

  • What iPod is it (touch, nano, etc.) and how old? I had a similar problem with my old nano. I plugged it into a power source and after about a day it worked. However, it doesn't work longer than 1 minute when not plugged in.

Not saying this is the case with your iPod, but next time only buy from an Apple retailer as there are a lot of knock offs that look just like the real thing.

  • That really, really stinks. That's weird you've only had it 8-9 months and it's died. I'd call your Apple and see if there is a warranty left on it.

I did laugh though because seeing NIP reminds me of Nursing in Public.

Haha, I know. I still think that sometimes too.

It came back to life. Turns out I am a dolt and I bought a Sansa cord for it. Same plug, but the power pins are in different spots. The cord I bought was an iTrip from Griffin, looked just like the one I had bought at Target AND was sold by someone named ipod accessories so I didn't even read the description very well. Oops.

I was mistaken, it wasn't from eBay, she said she got it from a coworker who bought it at Best Buy for some reason and then didn't need it. (My guess -- he went on Black Friday and someone bought another somewhere else as well. This happened with my family one year and with GPS devices instead.)
