Crayon shapes from broken/melted crayons PIP

During naptime, I amde butterfly crayons using broken/melted crayons.

I have seen a few ways of doing this - but I did it by putting the broken crayons in a disposable pan and melting.  Once melted (and cooled a bit), I took a cookie cutter to make the shapes.

It was really easy, but took a long time.

I wrote a whole blog post about it with ore pictures and "tips".  But, here are some of the completed product.

I am putting them in goodie bags, so I made up this little poem:

They look so cool
They look so neat
But, these are crayons
So, please do NOT eat.

  • They look great! I make mine by melting them straight into a greased mini muffin tin :) Love making them for my niece!

  • Those are really cool!  I saw a video of that Crayola crayon maker the other day. IKEA carries a bunch of silicon ice trays with different little shapes. That'd be a good way to use up old, broken crayons.

  • They're beautiful!

I'm totally filing this away for later use.

  • Those came out great!!
  • So cute!  I saw some on Pinterest (I think) recently where the person had purchased some of those silicone baking or ice cube trays that were shaped like Leggos and Leggo guys.

I really like the idea in general!

All I could think of when I read that was this commercial i heard flipping through radio stations this morning (NPR??) it was a funny jingle reminding kids to ask someone before putting something in their mouth.

Very cute crayons, I <3 butterflies!
