Frequent Flyers (with kids)
There is a new stroller regluation on American. In order to gate check it has to be "fully collapsable and under 20 lbs"... Ummmm.. That's great and all, but I have TWO kids. I don't have a double umbrella stoller (anymore) and it sure as heck wasn't under 20 lbs. What I do have is a Joovy Caboose. It weighs 24 lbs, but only collapses one way (like a lawn chair). Am I screwed? I'm traveling alone with 2 kids. I need a stroller to the gate. Suggestions? Will I get away with it? I'm happy to cry if necessary.
Re: Frequent Flyers (with kids)
I would argue that with 2 kids (aka 2 tickets) you would be allowed 2 strollers - which would be a total 40 lb weight, and you are clearly way below that. ??
Although, I tried to do that when DH and I packed a bag together that ended up being over 50 lbs - they charged us for the overweight bag, even though I said we were SAVING them room by combining our stuff.
I was not happy about it - and we ended up splitting our bags on the way back.
Good luck - maybe they will be nice!
1 reservation specialist, 2 managers, and tears later I got a big F-YOU. I tried the 2 kids would be to strollers and I'm only asking for 4 lbs. I'm going to be the B from hell at the airport tomorrow if they don't let me. That's CRAZY!!!! Manager said, "put one in a back pack"... My response "do you have kids?". Answer, "no".. Yeah, I didn't think so. Idiot! I have to make a connection with 2 kids. I will NEVER fly American again.
see, your problem is that you are being too logical.
my thought on a "gate check" is that they arent going to have a scale right there to know?
Put what in a backpack??? Your kid??? A stroller??
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life.
This.
Will they charge you for it? Make you leave it at the airport?
So Tasty, So Yummy
That is pure awful. I hope you are sending a letter to their corporate offices. Who says shiite like put one in a backpack???
Kid in backpack.. Like a backpack carrier...
I am going to to screw them I'm off to BRU to find this http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-20065-Stroller-Links-Black/dp/B003XMWFAU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1313702108&sr=8-2
Fine, I won't bring ONE LOGICAL STROLLER. I will bring TWO.. Biatches!!!!
They did tell me that they would weigh it and it if was over 20 lbs they would gate check it. Howt he hell can I make a connection with 2 kids without a stroller. I feel descriminated against because I have 2 kids. BS!!
So Tasty, So Yummy
That's what I did, although I bought something at Babies R Us that connected the two. It was $10 and actually worked well.
I wanted to bring my double Baby Jogger City Mini, but they would have made me check it at the check-in counter. That wouldn't do much good.

Urgh.
I wonder if you could request "special assistance" and make them come get you with the cart?! lol.
(Sounds like it's time to buy one of these, instead!
)
So Tasty, So Yummy
I'm wondering if the people at the gate would actually hold you to this. I find people on the phone and people at the gate have WAY different answers.
The lady on the phone kept telling me over and over I needed to take C's shot records or they would not let me board.
The people at the airport LOL'd at me when I tried to give it to them
This is totally true.
Also, when did this regulation go in to effect or is this just an AA thing? I just took a BOB to MA (not a double, tho) and had no issues.
