hard drive docking station?

I have a question, maybe simple....but I'm tech challenged.  My mom's computer took a poo so she bought a new one.  Her old tower won't even turn on so we can't transfer the data from the hard drive.  Can I pull the hard drive out and put it into a hard drive docking station?  Are the stations universal....like I can put any hard drive in it and just pull the info?  Seems too easy to me, that's why I'm asking :)  TIA!

Re: hard drive docking station?

  • Pretty much yes. The only big problem would be if the old machine was a PC and the new one is a Mac (or vice versa), since they organize the hard drive space and files a bit differently.

  • Nope....no Mac.  Thank you so much for the reply!
