We've been moving things around in the house and trying to hang pictures and such. Sometimes I feel like the walls in the house are too blank but when we start hanging things I start to feel cluttered. I like clean simple lines and am having a hard time striking a balance. Do you have walls in your house with nothing on them?
Re: Blank Walls
We like blank space, so we definitely have walls with nothing on them. Both of our moms have this inner drive to FILLFILLFILL every.single.available space with chickens, baskets, bears, glasses, dishes, pictures, etc. We even had a scottie dog themed bathroom when I was a kid
So I think our way of rebelling is by having a "naked" house. In fact, my mom budgeted $2000 the last time she visited to be sweet and buy us home decor because she thought our place looked "unlived in." We went to The Market and I choose a mirror, one picture, and a rack to hang some plates on. Total: $164. It took me another 8 months to find 3 plates I liked. She also kindly bought us new towels for another $100 or so at TJ Maxx. A year later, I bought a few items to display on the bathroom counter so it didn't look like our house had been foreclosed on
Some people have a real gift for combining lots of items in a way that gives you this beautiful, homey but chic result. I don't have that gift. Therefore, we stick to the basics.
This is me also and probably part of the problem.
I grew up in a house cluttered with crap. Not hoarder style or anything like that - we just had a lot of furniture with a lot of stuff on it and tons of stuff on the walls. That drives me crazy.
Our walls are painted muted colors with very few things on the walls. I would rather decorate with texture and fabrics. Our hallway has a ton of pictures on the wall - Dh and I usually take a cheesy picture on each of the trips we have gone on - these are grouped together in our hallway. But that's it!

Bloggy
The more crap on your walls = the more crap you have to dust.
YUCK!
We only have things on one wall in our living room and our hallway. The rest are blank. Mostly because we don't really have a lot of wall art and I can never seem to find any that I love (actually, I can't find any that DH and I BOTH love.)

I'm not a huge fan of blank walls, but I'd rather have blank walls than go stock up on crap that I don't love. I vote for only putting things on walls that you absolutely can't live without. Going to Kirklands/Hobby Lobby etc. and picking out random sh!t just so the walls aren't blank is the route most people go, and it's dumb. I also think that clustering smaller things on a wall looks cluttered. I like larger pieces that take up more room and fill the space. One of my neighbors has this issue--HUGE wall, tiny picture.
I think this is part of it, too. I'm really picky and I don't want to get something meh just as a space filler.
I unfortunately do not have that gift, either. I despise decorating and wish someone would do it for me. Both DH and I are very "anti-stuff" so we don't like anything that resembles clutter. Combine that with the dislike of decorating....yah, we've got plenty of blank walls. But our house is very clean most of the time! And what decor/furniture we do have is nice and coordinates with the house.
