Afternoon birthday party - food question

I am hosting an afternoon birthday party that starts @ 1pm. It cannot start earlier or later bc we have conflicts/other things that day.

So, if you came to a kid's bday party at 1 pm would you expect lunch? In my experience - most of my friends eat an early lunch so this would be too late for them. We went to a party last weekend at 1 and by the time the food was ready - it was near 2 and a lot of it went to waste.

So assuming that it's not lunch time and more of snacky type of food do you think that veggie tray, fruit salad served in cones, cheese & crackers type of stuff will cut it?? How many options would you offer? Followed of course by cake.

I am an over the top party planner - and had 2 years where we had insane amounts of food wasted and I left a bunch with the place that we rented and/or sent home food with people. I do not want that to happen again!

 TIA!

  • Why not offer just cake & ice cream?  If it's after lunch, I don't see the need for anything else.  Write it plainly on the invite and you'll be set.

This is a good idea - because yes, 1 o'clock is still lunchtime to me, so unless the invite stated otherwise I would expect more than just snacky-foods.

But if the invite clearly stated otherwise, I'd know to eat lunch earlier.

  • Agreed with Tar.  1 is still lunch time here, especially since most of our family travels for the parties.

    This.  Exactly.

Ditto this. If it's clear, then I will eat, but if it's not I may hold off on breakfast, depending on the ages fo my kids, how far it takes to travel there, etc.

    Hi:

I would expect lunch at 1:00 Pm.  Not at 2, that would be just cake and ice cream in my mind.
